Systematic analysis

Several people suggested that you put the original woodies back on and observe the heli's behavior. If it still shakes, the problem resides somewhere else, if it doesn't the problem is related to the blades. This is a very simple test to get you looking at the right issue.

Head speed, gyro gain, etc. are likely places to go AFTER you have isolated the shake to the blades...

shake

Well guys i got out today and changed a few things and it all boiled down to the head speed..... added some pitch..........took out some gyro gain........ and took away alittle throttle...... BINGO!!!! I had my bird back!!!! Couldnt get the gain set just perfect yet due to 20mph wind gusts and 10-15mph steady wind.... at any rate i thank you all for the suggestions! now if the wind will slow down and keep this tempature i can see how these new blades are!!!!! thanks again guys! GOTTA LOVE RUNRYDER!!!!!!!! thanks MARK

Yep, as I was reading the post before it was mentioned head speed and gyro gain, that though was going through my mind. Blade airfoil and weight etc.. determines where a sweet spot is for the blade to hover and the right head speed. I noticed this when I would switch from my woodies to SAB's and especially woodies to the much lighter NHP's. As your headspeed increased, your tail speed increased which made you tail more efficent requiring less gain from your gyro now. It makes sense and I'm happy you got it fixed. Now get out there and burn some fuel!!!!

RapidRaptor, your problem-solving strategy is a good one, but sometimes it can be misleading. One of the things that makes heli problems to hard to track down is that changing one thing usually changes a couple others.

In this case, changing the blades changed the head speed, and the higher head speed made the gyro feedback too high. It's the head speed, not the blades themselves, which caused the wag. The problem appeared as a result of the blade change, but the solution had nothing to do with the blades - just a matter of turning down the gyro gain.

Sometimes it's helpful to isolate the setup change that brought out the problem, but sometimes it's even more helpful to look at the whole system and how the variables interact. Here's something I created a while back to help illustrate the relationships between different aspects of helicopter setup:

It's pretty complex, but as this thread has shown, it's not even complete yet.
