| I guess it's my turn. I've been flying (poorly) when possible in the Northeast since I first started in January. I'm still working my first gallon doing circles, and figure 8's. Got out last Saturday in 70 degree weather looking forward to some decent stick time. A couple of short hops to knock the rust off, then on my 3rd time, about 2 minutes into it, the motor speeds up slightly then starts to loose power. I was only about 20 feet up, and by the time I realized what was happening, it was too late to build headspeed for an auto. (who am I kidding, probably couldn't have, even if I thought of it at the time. ) Minor damage actually, nicked up the blades (still usable) and broke a mixing arm. After the crash I tried to restart the motor but I was a little stumped. I had to open the needle about 1 1/2 turns before it would start. Didn't really make sense at the time. When I got the parts to repair, I went over everything thoroughly, and found that the fuel hose I was using for muffler pressure that was originally provided with the kit had split and come off the nipple of the fuel tank. Obviously this leaned the engine out and increased the force of gravity exponentially. Got the good fuel line all around now, shame on me.
And while I'm here, thanks Mark and everyone else in this forum ( my only source of help so far) who has helped make my learning curve a lot shorter than it should be. |
