Hi,

On my Rap 60 ARF, it appears that when the tail case and boom are assembled and installed, the tail drive shaft will be able to slide front to back about a half and inch or more. Is this normal?

Thanks

NO !

This is not normal. Recheck the installation.Something is wrong. There should be none or very little play . Is the tail boom seated all the way up in the front ?

I seat mine in then back it out about 4mm to allow for any differential thermal expansion/contraction. I don't want there to be a binding problem with the dissimlar metals (boom & drive shaft) with dissimilar expansion/contraction properties.

The boom is seated completly into the frame. The bearings and gear seem to be in the proper place in the tail case. I'm not sure it would even go together if they weren't. What would be the maximum amount of play.

Rap 60 tail drive shaft

Jheli,

How do you know that the taildrive shaft can move forwards/afterwards when everything is assembled???

My Rappy is assembled and i noticed that when i turn the tail rotors there is a little play before the mainrotors turn also,is this normal?

Thanks,

I think I measured the play in the drive shaft before I made sure the boom was seated all the way. I have measured again and only find about 3/16 of an inch of play now.

I took off the left half of the tail case and kept the right half on the boom with the drive shaft/gear/bearings still in the right half of the case where they belong. I made sure the right half of the case was on the boom where it is supposed to go. I noted the distance from the end of the boom to the edge of the gear that goes on the shaft. I removed the right side of the case and was then abe to move the gear/shaft into the boom about a half inch or so. But as I said above, I must not have had the boom seated all of the way the first time.
