rsilver, lol, u missed the heli-room! There is a heli/car parts (locked room at end of counter-just ask will get buzzed in...) room with a ton of heli parts and about 5 or 6 heli's on consignments, plus all the kits and blades. Just Hirobo parts r kept up front on wall behind registers. Maybe there should be a sign. The owner locked the door there cause all the car parts "growing legs". Oh well, another day

My observations on the great Sceadu 30/50 debate:

The Sceadu 30/50 mechanics are identical EXCEPT for the following:
(I know this because I have built BOTH the 30 and the 50)

1. pinion gear (the clutch bell is the same but since the pinion and bell come together as a set you get both)

2. motor mount

3. fan mount spacer

Now with that being said I want to point out the muffler for the 50 and the 30 is the SAME. I know because I have both. I checked them and they are identical. (FWIW this holds true on the Nexus muffler as well; it fits the OS32 and the OS46/50 since the muffler footprint is the same for both engines)

The 3rd bearing block and DTDS are upgrades. The fact that Hirobo/Altech includes the 3rd bearing and DTDS with the 50 is their choice. Those 2 upgrades will work whether you have a 30 or a 50. Either machine will benifit from these upgrades. The 50 more so with the 3rd bearing.

The main gear that comes with the 30 is the same as the one that FORMERLY came with the 50 (until Altech started furnishing the 50 with the DTDS) I will grant you the stock main gear is not as good as the machined derlin gear of the DTDS.

Blade choices become another issue altogether. Some people like the 570mm FRP blades on the 30 as well as the 50. The woodies from the 30 work best with the 30 size motor only. Some people have success with 600mm FRP blades on the 50. All these blade choices are up to the builder's discretion.

With various world wide source choices for the Sceadu it's no wonder people are getting confused as to what is what. I hope that my little contribution helps clear some of that up. Best advice I can give is for you to inquire as to what you are getting before you buy.

JEFF,

OK, I am going to point some things out that must be corrected NOW.

The Muffler is NOT the same. 30 size muffler is Part # 0412-125 the 50 size muffler is part # 0412-126 They look very similar but they are NOT. Measure them...prove me wrong.

Ken's Right

The OS50 will not except a muffler that designed for the 32. Period!
There may be some crazy long slotted mount/adapter made by someone/sometime but I don't think it'll do the job very well.

STORY;
I ordered a 2nd Weston pipe for my OS 50. It was backordered for 5 weeks and when it came in I waited a month to change it since the other still preformed great but looked a little crappy. When I went to put it on it would not line up. Turns out, Weston welded on the flange for an OS32 on the OS50 pipe.

Now........... I just wonder if it'll help a OS 32 preform similar to the 50 !!!
Naw, I doubt it.

I'm sending it back back to be replaced.

I hate to disagree, but.......

I have a Sceadu 50 (well, had, after a crash) I have a Sceadu 30 (just got the kit) and I have an OS46.

Now, the OS46 I have is physically the same size as the OS 50 and it has the same bolt hole pattern for mounting and same muffler mounting. I have already installed the muffler I got with my Sceadu 30 on my OS46 and it fits..........

explain that........

I'm not trying to be smart, cute, funny or anything. I am just stating what I have observed first hand.

OTay for the sake of argument and for fun, I have my 50 size muffler off and in hand the bolt holes are 37.5mm apart measured center to center

The chamber length is 129mm

Anyone got the 30 muffler handy??? HAHAHA

I don't have my 30 muffler anymore...

To add to it all, my Webra 35 measures 35mm bolt hole to bolt hole

My OS 50 measures 37.5mm bolt hole to bolt hole

All measurement are taken from bolt hole center.
