HIROBO Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > Sell me on the Sceadu!

Ok guys, I have a Nexus I am learning on. If (when) I turn it into a dirt dart I want to get a Sceadu 30 or a Raptor 30. I like the quality of the Sceadu kit. Give me some more reasons I should chose it over the Raptor. I'll tell you the truth, I don't need much to push me, I see that most are flying the Raptor and I don't like to take the path that "most" do. So... sell me on the Sceadu 30. I have researched it but I want some owner input. What is this I hear about overheating problems?

Try one of each, if possible.

If you can find one of each in your area and your comfortable hovering and such. Just ask to try each one of them. All the flyers at my airfield will let new people try their's if they can reasonably hover.

It helps if they are setup for normal flying and not FULL ON 3D. So don't ask to fly the Hotdogs machine. I have both heli's and the Raptor 30/50 is sold as I write this. It's just not fun to fly compaired to the Sceadu 50 I have.

Just my opinion and experiance. Raptor is the Best bang for the buck cause parts are so cheap and it will get you from beginner to 3D but you'll need lots of those cheap parts along the way.

Flame if you want Rappy guys but I've helped sell 3 new Sceadu's in my area in the last 4 weeks by letting people fly mine. One just sold his Raptor.

There are no overheating problems if you can tune the engine.

It still comes down to what you feel is best for you.

Happy flying

I like your site Ken. You have pushed me further toward the Sceadu. From what I can see, the price of the kit is justified. I just feel that the kit is of better quality than a Raptor (and I agree it looks better).

I feel I am capable at tuning engines. I dont see a problem there.

Anybody else have anything new to show me?

One more thing... how in the hell do you pronounce the name? Skeedoo or Sk A do? Just wondering... I don't have anybody around here that I can talk to. Does anybody know what the name means?

The sceadu has the sexiest canopy ever. Ever. It has legs. It knows how to use them...

It comes stock with a tail boom servo mount. The guides on the tail can be used with either a wire or a carbon rod. No upgrades needed there.

The sceadu is tight, responsive, and with a 50, a helluva lot of fun. It's fast, fun, beautiful, and it makes the greatest margaritas. It can do cardio kickboxing, and it doesn't smell like shoes. It will dance with eloquence, and it doesn't taste like overbuttered popcorn. It isn't soggy, sweet, sour, or salty, and to see to see the sceadu swaying in the breeze is like feeling the first furtive glimpses of a naked woman with a beckoning finger.

Seeing the Raptor barging around the sky is like seeing Queen Elizabeth lounging in the buff.

Thanks, John Cadwell

You know what I just noticed from Cadwell's gallery? The Sceadu has the same tank location as the Nexus... I like that, I like being able to see just what I have left. Nice... so... how in the hell do you pronounce the name...

From my experiences with both, I just can't recommend a R30 over a S30 if price was not an issue. The danged woof and poof and wah-wahs just make the R30 too unpredictable. It's either you get the best or the worst kit, quality isn't consistent from kit to kit.

The S30 is reliable, parts fit better and stay that way longer. And if not for the botched main gear (which has been fixed thanks to Jeff), one of the best kits to come out in awhile.

Pronounce it "Scooby-Doo."

I like how the Scooby-Doo has plenty of flat surfaces to mount electronics. I also like how it has a battery tray. I also like how it has a constant drive tail. I do like my Raptor 30 though, and it is an ARF. The Scooby-Doo is only an ARF if you import it from another country -- but then you do not get the constant drive or extra support bearing. Although you do get blades.

I did not sense much better quality when building the Scooby-Doo, but it certainly was not worse. I know I can get Raptor parts at my local dealer and no one within 350 miles will have Scooby-Doo Parts. After building both, and if I had to start from zero, I would be tempted to get a Raptor 50 over anything else. I will tell you why -- cause the rest are just a bit better but the parts availability counts for a tremendous amount to me.

I also feel that there is little compromise in a Raptor. It is not crap by any sense but rather a great design that happens to be cheap. It would be like being able to buy a Subaru WRX for $9,000. Even though you know there are better cars it is so amazing that it is as good as it is for the price that you are happy to drive it. Besides, it flies well, looks fine, and if it breaks it is always my fault.

Sceadu is the Old-English word for shadow, shade, or darkness. From what I have seen it is best pronounced as "Shadoo" as the sc from Old-English is th same as the modern Sh.

I had to know...

I found this http://www.ealdriht.org/skadi.html

To summerize:

Sceadu is litterally "shadow" but it is really the name of a beatiful Goddess that favors snow covered mountains. She is a hunter and uses a bow, but is caring, not cold.

Don't over simplify...

Well, it is not correct to say that it "is really" this or that because that is just the view that a few scholars have taken on it.

There are many versions of what it could and did mean but to say it is really one thing is simplifying something that we just can't simplify.

It is nice to see how the different cultures used the word. Did anybody else notice the use of Frea? Interesting...

When I said "it really is" I meant the name "Sceadu" was picked in reference to the god rather than the word "shadow." I did not mean that the goddess Sceadu really is a mountain snow hunter. That part is open to interpretation.

Sceadu and Freya are related gods. So if the Freya was named after a god, and Sceadu is also a god, then I think it is pretty clear that Hirobo was referring to the name of the goddess "Sceadu" rather than using another word for "shadow." Makes sense to me. I see little chance of another interpretation.

I fly both the Raptor 50 and the Sceadu 50, ( I have a Raptor 30 also) . Either one will make you a great heli. If you are at the begining stage you will not notice the differences for a long time. The Raptor costs less to buy. Parts are cheap. I have not crashed my Sceadu yet, so I can't compare the parts cost.

WHere are you at in MA

Rsilvers, where are you at in MA? I know of three dealers in the MA area that will or already carrying Sceadu parts. Let me know who is near you and I'll lean on them a bit. I am good friends with most of them. Hate to leave you out in the cold.

Sure, let me know who they are. I am just one machine though. But if they don't stock them, they are no use as I will mail order rather than do a return visit to a store. I have had great luck with Alex in Belmont for Raptor parts.

Sceadu and Freyja were supposidly sister goddesses....

You think those norse words are hard to pronounce.... try this one:

yggdrazil

Pronounced IG (as in pig) DRA (as in draw) ZEEL (as in heel). It means "the world tree".

How about some Irish Gaelic....... Uisci

Pronounced whisky believe it or not.... and better yet it literally means water.

Here is a Cymri Gaelic (native welsh) name Myrrdin...

This one is hard.... Mya eer din.... remember King Aurthur's companion Merlin? This was his native name....

If you've ever heard someone speak fluent Gaelic you'll know that French isn't even close to being the most beautiful sounding language.

Just thought yall might find it interesting...
