Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > Raptors are GREAT

My brother and I had a rough weekend. He dumped his raptor 30, and I had to follow suit and wreck my Raptor 60. When we got home and did a parts inventory we were completely amazed to find out that it was going to cost us less than 90 bucks to get BOTH birds back in the air... These things cost less to run than our RC cars use to. I just can not get over how inexpensive, and carefree flying Raptors are....

I have seen 5 raptor crashes. 4 of them cost less than $6 each to repair. One of them was $40.

I am sure your right

I am sure Luck had a lot to do with the crashes not costing a lot but still it is nice flying helis that fly decent and do not cost an arm and a leg to fly and repair. In early March with the same Raptor 30 I hit a streetlight in fast forwared flight. Not too much of the heli left after the crash but the repairs cost right around 100 dollars. I am sure if I hit a streetlight with my Fury I would spend 100 bucks on the blades alone.

I only lost blades on one of the crashes. It did the dying chiken at full power.

The other end of the scale

I had a mid air boom strike with my rappy 50 and the cost will be well over $150 including SAB 600. I lost the tail rotor and 6 of us serched for 20 min and could not find it. The 9253 servo had the wire ripped from it's case and the belt was shredded. I lost the fiberglass canopy that I just painted. The frames and skids survived. I have not torn it apart yet but you get the idea.

I am holding off on expensive blades until I stop crashing. If the store ever ships them I will have $28 550mm glass blades soon.

rsilver you can always carry a few spare woodblades. get them all balanced up you'll be a happy camper.. I rather have FRP blades.. they are much better IMHO.

Good point about the blades, I guess to get my point across better I should have said that the frames alone for the fury would have cost over 100 bucks.

I fly the Raptors completely stock including the wood blades (I balance them). The point I am at with learning, the wood blades and Raptors are great becase it takes the fear out of trying new things, and for what Iam doing the wood blades work fine.

Sorry to hear about your crash. What were you doing that caused you to have a boom strike up in the air?

Interesting

If you had a crash on the Fury that damaged the frames then I would venture to say that the cost of replacing all the other components that were damaged is > $200 w/o blades.

What was the total $ damage there Zxyxx?

Just curious. Never crashed my Fury but sure did the price comparisons. Great machine though!!

d-n-jensen,

I am also curious what you were doing that caused a mid air boom strike.... Let me know so I can avoid doing it

This is the worst wreck I've ever had. I came down square on the nose and busted a lot of stuff. It's going to cost ~$450 to repair. I'm probably going to buy a new kit and keep the good stuff as spares.

Ouch

Thats the exact thing I am afarid of doing to the Fury.... If I did that to the Raptor I would probably not care too much....

Zx sorry to here about your fury, man that must suck! But I have been there many of times with my vigor! The cheapest crash I had with the vigor cost me $400.00 canadain with out blades and none of them recked the frames, it was all tail and head damage.

Hope you get her back in the air soon! buy the way what caused the crash?

I was doing an inverted auto in windy conditions. When I rolled out and applied full negative I was in a slight nose-down attitude. The wind caught the disk and pushed it to a total nose-down attitude. I applied up elevator to no avail.

I just picked up my new kit. I'll be flying by the weekend.

Guys I just destroyed my Fury 80! It will cost over $400 to get it back in the air. I am selling my ys 80 and ksj muffler combo and many high price items that are left over.....I was surprised how brittle the Fury was compared to my Raptor...
