e-Mikado Logo 400 500 600 > New Logo10 build. Good setup?

Ok this is my planned rig so far. I am transitioning from a Century Raven 30 CCPM, so I'm only a beginner in the electrics but not helos in general. I am bringing some gear over from that rig. They are: JR-XP8103 PCM, Futaba GY-401 /S9253, Schulze ISL6-330 charger and other line gear. I'm going with the new Logo 10 3D. The point of many of my upgrades here is to be able to start lightly, but have all the hardware I need to move up to aerobatics without having to buy a lot of extra stuff. Make sense? Motor will be a Fun 600-17(room to grow) and the 15, 18 and 20 pinions for experimentation. Looking to use mostly 12 cell NiMh, but occasional bounce between 10 an 14 as well. Possible LiPo in the future. Using Deans Ultra wire and connectors. Servos will be JR-DS368's. Going with the Kool UBEC for future upgradability and a Future 18.46k since I will have the UBEC. I plan on getting the new FMA-FS8CPZ copilot. Will this integrate well with the other components? Upgrades will be: Head disc(button), carbon gyro tray etc. Not sure about some of this, so any suggestions would be helpful. I know this is a lot to evaluate, but I definitely need some advice on this setup. Thanks in advance. --Chris--

BTW- The Raven is for sale.

Save your money on the NiMi batteries and get the LiPoly's right off the bat and you will be much more happier. I got almost 4 times the flight time when I made the switch.!!!! Just my opinion.

Cool. Which pack did you get? Did you have to change anything else, in other words, will LiPo work with the UBEC and standard "Future" type controller? Thanks..

Thunder Power 4S4P battery is what I got. Not cheap as they are fairly new but with almost 25 minute flights I feel it was worth it. Nothing needs to change except maybe a pinion, the head speed will be higher.

Ok, I've changed my mind and have decided to go LiPoly right off the bat. Probably 4S4P. Now I have to start over with my power combo. I'm guessing I'll have to get a higher capacity controller. Perhaps a 32.40 ? will this controller allow me to use different size (in terms of voltage) batteries? How does it compensate? Can I use the same motor, or do I have to switch to a higher amp rating? What about the pinion? Arrrgh! Gettin confused again. Thanks a lot Hivoltage

In france it's praticcaly impossible or very very expensive.

Info for cwd10.
I run with B50 15L (kv1610) with 14T pignon for about 1500rpm rotor.
The 15T pignon will be good for much rpm and 3D flying.
Controleur Shulze 18-46K is my préférence for his very smoth start.
I do not use the ultimate UBEC but small battery AAA NiMh 750mAh,
50gr for about 4 fly.

Thanks milleolo. Another question. Does anybody know where I could find a chart ot graph that shows recommended head speeds based on desired performance? Specifically for the Logo 10.

I would vote for the Astro charger. I have had very good service from my AF chargers and have been using them for 8+ years. Simple to fix if it ever needs to be done. I had a knob go out a couple of years back and it was a simple fix.

cwd10,

Go here: http://www.logoheli.com/guestpages.htm

Near the bottom of the page download Danal Estes' Logo 10 "Motorization Spreadsheet" I think it has all the information you're looking for.

Thanks Baldrick. I've seen this chart before, and I see that it is to help you decide on a combo based on desired head speed, but I'm not sure you understood my question, so I'll refrase it. I need to know what head speeds I need to get. For instance, what is a good speed for hovering? Or, what is a good speed for light aerobatics and 3d? I can't find a reference anywhere that tells me what speeds are desired for a given performance range.

Cwd10,

Your correct, I had misunderstood your question, sorry.

However, the spreadsheet I referred to has an instruction tab which contains the following data.

Headspeeds:
"Mikado recommends 1100-1200 for hover; 1300-1500 for cruising and light aerobatics; and 1600 for heavy aerobatics and 3D. Most US flyers seem to like a LOT more headspeed that this, many are cruising at 1800 and pushing 2000 for 3D."

I'm interested in other views too; I'm looking to buy a Logo 10 soon. Initially, I'll be hovering and cruising. I'm planning on 12 cells, Hacker C50-13L and 14T pinion to target 1750 headspeed but maybe I'd be better with 13T and target 1650 headspeed.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cwd10,

This link may also be of use. Plug in your data to calculate headspeed.

http://www.e-helis.com/helicalc.php

It suggests:-
1200-1400 rpm: Beginner and hover practice. | 1400 - 1600 rpm: Sport flying and basic aerobatics. | 1600 - 1800 rpm: Hard 3D and extreme aerobatics.

Thanks Baldrick. Good info. You may want to stay on the high side if you're considering using a controller with a governer. Somewhere I saw that when using the governor, you have to set your normal peak speed at about 80% to give it enough headroom. I'm surely not an expert at this, so I suggest more research but I'm pretty sure about it. I think I'm going to have a look at the manual for the controller I plan on buying to verify this. I just downloaded it, so I'll have a look at it this weekend. Thanks again...

rotor rpm for logo10

To calculate the rotor headspeed on Logo 10 with main gear T200.
rpm=KV*Volts*Tmotor pignon / 200 * 0.9.
with 1.1v per cell : 12 cells=13.2v, 14cell=15;4v
with LiPo 3.5v :4s= 14v
0.9 is approximatly the max performance for a brushless motor = 90% power.
Exemple B50 15L KV=1610, 15.4v, 14Tpignon
rpm=1610*15.4*14/200*0.9=1562.
It is a pretty good calcul and I run my logo with this motor and pignon at 1500rpm in governor mode at 80% with future 18-46k.

The new plan is for a C50-15L with 13 and 15 tooth pinions, 18.46k and 4S4P LiPoly. The question is, will this motor be able to stand the high speeds when used with the 15t pinion? I know this motor is recommended for hover and acro, but not 3d. I am concerned that with the duration given by the LiPo's and the high head speeds, the motor might get too hot or wear out prematurely.

I had a fun 600-17 (went from a 600-18 ) on 4S4P it was crap ..go for 5S3P or even consider a fun 600-15 on summat like 6S2P

mild motor and HV is the way to go .. don't rush and do your research

Hello

My setup has realy good power. Im using a Fun600-15(14 tooth pinino) with a 5s3p thunder power pack. I dont have a heat sink on the motor and it does get quite warm if I try to fly the entire pack. I just break my flights up into 2 8 min flights. You could look into getting a Hacker C50-xxL motor with a similar KV to the Fun 600-15. I know that there is a Kontronik Tango that has a Kv around 1500 and that may be a good choice also.

Note, my pack and my controller are a tiny bit warm after flights.
