I just got a new Tanic 2200mah 6s lithium battery. I didn't even charge it yet but I was cutting the wires down to install a deans plug and the negative wire touched the Xacto knife while i was cutting the positive wire and there was a pop and sparks. The battery appears to be physically fine but I dont know what happened to it internally. Is this battery damaged?

Oh Man. It is really hard to say. The lithium batteries are more delicate than all the others and they have different characteristics. The same thing happened with a NiMh pack I got recently, I prayed and it was fine. Try to slow charge it and if it doesn't hold the charge then it is over for that pack.

LiPB check out.......

When you shorted out the cells, you only noticed a short pop and spark, correct??? If so, this battery is FINE!!!!! My only concern is that the cells may be out of balance. If you have a way to check the individual cells voltages, that would be the ABSOLUTE best thing for you to do.

If the short was ONLY momentary, you have nothing to worry about. I would feel safe in using this battery in my ships.

Good luck!!
