I've put a few files in my gallery (my files) They're zipped .ipt and .igs files of a hitec micro servo mockup and eyelet and rubber grommet.
Hope it works

Nice pictures, but their too big and take too long to download. You need to resize them before putting them in your gallery. You can only see about 1/4 of the picture at a time once their open. Try converting the size to web format, about 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Oh those, duh, I didn't see those at the bottom. I will have a look at them now.

I downloaded those files, but I can't open them. You need to save them in a different type of file? It says Windows doesn't recognize this type of file.

Filetypes

Ah yes you need a CAD program that can open IGES files, they are 3D drawings which you cannot open with anything else... The ipt files are supported by Inventor 8.0

OIC, well that just sucks, because I don't have that program. Oh well, maybe one of these days I'll get one to play with?

Good and Bad.......

SolidWorks opened the .ipt files fine..................but the IGES files were a mess.

I tried them in 3 different apps, a couple of which are 3rd party translators, and they all had issues, so I suspect the files are of low tollerance.

Like I said though, the .ipt looked fine.

Thanks,

Nice

I didn't know you could open the ipt with solidworks. As for the IGES files, I had some problems earlier with converting files for a rapid prototyping machine, so this must be a problem with the inventor program. I'm going to look into buying software for checking IGES and STL files....
Still, this method seems to work for sharing files then, now all we need are all the drawings I'm interested in a raptor 50 head

Yup......

SolidWorks can open native files from UG, ProE, Inventor, Solidedge and Cadkey. I also have a translator that opens Catia V4 and V5.

One other option if your getting bad IGES files is to save as STEP.

The problem with IGES is that everyone does it a little different. People think that IGES is a "Standard", but it isn't. IGES stands for 'International Graphics Exchange Specification". No software that I know of reads EVERY entity type in the spec, so when one software writes a type that others can't read, that's when all hell breaks loose.

Thanks,

ahaa!

Indeed , I thought IGES was a standard format, so STEP might be better then? If everybody can open that, fine by me.I know Rhino opens it and solidworks too apparently, so this might be the way for sharing files then? I'll post some STEP files next week.

By the way: who has some drawings to post anyway? It seems that everyone wants to get stuff but there's going to have to be some giving aswell. I can't post stuff I design at work because it's company property but I'm willing to post standard stuff like engines and servo's ...

Nice forum, hope it stays alive
