e-Electric Batteries & Chargers > Orbit V6.3 lead acid charging has changed...

Has anyone who has the Orbit Microlader V6.3 noticed that Orbit changed the volts/cell to 2.40? It used to be 2.45 (constant voltage) and I liked it much better.

Orbit claims that 99% of their users wanted it changed! I can't see why they would. I guess I was 1 in a 100 who liked the 2.45 Volts?

It now takes longer to charge the sealed lead acid batteries - but still puts back more then is taken out. NOT like the TRITON.

discharge 5000mah

charge approx.... 5325mah.

Anyone else with an Orbit have a preference???

While I'm not usually charging lead acid batteries, it sounds to me like your sensitivity on your charger (if it has an adjustable one) is set too low. It's slightly overcharging the battery each time. Just from experience with other types of batteries, it checks the voltage on the battery every so often, and once the battery voltage gets to a certain peak, and then drops a little, the battery is deamed fully charge. If your charger is set to say a .4 v drop, it could be a little overcharged before it drops .4 below it's peak rather than a .1v drop where the moment it see's that drop it stops...

charging lead acid batteries...

Maverick,

Lead Acid Batteries are charged to a max voltage. You usually select a charge current and the battery is charged with a constant current source until this voltage is achieved. Then the charger switches over to constant voltage...limiting the current.

When the voltage is reached the current is tapered down until the battery voltage is at the max with little current.

Initially charge current is high until this voltage is met. By lowering the voltage you may not get a full charge. I guess it depends on the battery and manufacturer as to what is considered a full charge.
