| We wanted to be able to run a lot of different motors, some turn fast some don't. This is why we had to make the gear train so versatile. Yes, with some motors you do not use the secondary stage. In fact, some motors use the same basic gearing as the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's.
We have used pretty much every blade out there, I think I have 12 or maybe 15 unique sets of blades now. As with everything else, you want to choose for efficiency. So, nice thin airfoil, swept tip blades are good. Lengths of 660, 680, 700 and 710 have been used. Jason is currently using 700's.
The weight is very dependant on motor, batteries, blades and paint. In fact Tim has a new set of frames today that he took a little more weight out of. But, counting on a heli weight of 6.5 pounds minus batteries is realistic. So, 32 round cells would weigh about 66 ounces or 4.1 pounds, so an all up weight of about 10.5 pounds, give or take.
With the new Lipo packs you can take a pound off that...
