Hi

I'm charguing 30 - 32 cells using the Orbit 6.3.

Being an electric newbie whats the best way to charge, I've read reflex charging, peak fast charge, easy charge ????

Give me a pointer to get me going and I'll sort the rest out over time

Thanks

It is kind of important to know what cells you are charging!!!

If you are using RC2400 NiCd or HR2600 NiMH, I would use Auto (fast)with the NiCd (8mV/cell) peak setting.

Too bad you don't have the Orbit Pro for so many cells. I think the Orbit is only good for 30 cells.

Hi

Sorry, Nicad or NIMH cells, 32.

It is the Orbit Pro (Software V 6.3)

Thanks for the reply.

I'll give it a try.

Glad you have the Orbit Pro.

Even with the Pro, with that many cells the current your Orbit will deliver will be power-limited. You'll probably max out at 5.5A or so. I'm not sure how much current the V6.3 firmware will put into your pack at the NiMH+ peak (5mV/cell) setting. I would give this setting a try with your NiMH cells and see if you still get the same max current.

Hi Rob

Sorry you lost me there, I just made another post about the tech stuff, appreciate it if you take a look.

Also I read about the NIMH+ settings, and again, don't quite understand them

There was 4 settings, Nicad , Nicad+, NIMH and NIMH +

How do I determine what to use, whats the difference??

Answered your questions in the other thread.

This whole "peak charging" thing is really a way of terminating the charge on NiMH and NiCd cells. Technically, we are talking about fast-charging with delta-peak charge termination.

Near the end of a fast charge (say, 2-4C charge current), the voltage peaks at about 1.5-1.6V/cell then starts to decline. The mV setting on your Orbit is how much the voltage has to decline per cell for the charge to terminate. On your Orbit, the peak setting also determines to some degree the maximum current the charger will deliver - i.e. it will supply less current at low delta-peak settings.

With regard to what peak setting to use, to some degree you can experiment but it is best to follow these guidelines:

Use auto and high peak settings for sub C fast charge NiCds and even some fast charge NiMHs like the 2600s and the new 3300s.

BTW. Cells like the 2600s are amazing HOT off the charger.

Don't use auto for small cells, particularly small NiMH.

Use 2C and low peak settings for most NiMH.

Whew!!!
