Been noticing lately that when asking for help, the posts sure do not get many responses. Case in point is one of my own posts. I am having some difficulty, and being a new heli pilot, and recently had to move away from the group of people who used to help me to a location where helicopters are considered taboo, I post online to both this forum and Rotory. I believe between the two posts I have maybe three responses and I know that many other people out there are able to help, they just do not. Did something happen in the year and a half that I was away from the hobby? When I left, if I had a question I just posted to one of the boards and within an hour or so I had numerous responses attempting to help me. Not any more. Are we becomming one of the crusty sites that we see so often? The small group of people and then the 'outsiders'? Anyone willing to offer an opinion? Comment?

BTW, I might have my problem solved so please do not think this is a fishing expedition.

If you want your post to get attention, criticize something or complain about something.

I don't believe it's that bad yet . . . but it's getting there. People are flocking to the "dirt," gossip and controversial posts.

This completes roughly my first year on RR and I'm hoping it is just the fact that everyone (up north, anyway) is just grumpy from being stuck in the shack and not flying all winter. I have some disposable income . . . enough for TWO heli projects . . . and one (Pred gasser) keeps getting delayed, and the other (Graupner electric scale) has the only US rep MIA. So now I have the money and the time but I can't buy anything for OTHER reasons! Go figure!

But hopefully the few posts you are getting are helpful. I read them all but I only reply when I can actually offer something helpful. I try not to guess (though I just did offer some guesses in a YS80 post just now!).

Hang in there . . . it should get better soon.

Glenn.

I'm not really an R/C pilot, I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night!

I assume you mean these posts?

1. Can reflex run on a P3 600

2. Where can I buy Nimhs from

3. Why does my OS32 sound like a boat...

1. was answered

2. was answered

3. was answered

Why would you want more answers when there were plenty already?

Yes others could post I agree, others could post use the search feature but if a question appears to be answered satisfactorily most people move on...

I would think that applies to most of us

Well Galifrey, maybe to you they were answered, but not to me. My OS 32 is not running rich and I still do not know of other locations where people buy NiMH (there is definately more than 2 out there). The people who did post were helpful and I appreciate that.

As for the search option, spending over an hour lookig through threads on my OS issue and not finding an answer, then I posted. So now what do you have to say?

Anyone can be ignorant and flame me for this, I really do not give a crap. I come here looking for help, nothing else. Why don't we shut the forums down? The majority of the questions have been answered so why do we need them any more?

It is responses like this that make me really see which way this is going. Down the crapper. No one having the time to help others out because 'I saw that two years ago on runryder, they should just search for it' attitude.

Why don't we be constructive and help each other like we used to, not flame them or criticize them? I really think Glenn hit this one on the head, and I am sad to see it.

BTW, it is not just my posts, it is many others as well. I am too new to help anyone on any real problems that they are having, but if I see something that I have run into in the past I am more than willing to help. It takes just a quick minute to write something up. All those dumb questions that the senior people out there see were probably asked by them once before, maybe not here. I come here to learn from my peers. I try doing searches just like most new heli pilots here do, but sometimes we cannot find the answers. Maybe we do not really know what we are looking for and a point in the right direction would be appreciated, or maybe a hint on how to refine our searches to help us find what we want. Those would be constructive responses. I know I will do my part in helping others, although it is somewhat limited. Why?

Because I was there once too.

akforsyth...

When someone reads a post that has 2 replies and no further comment about yes/no that did/didnt solve my problem then they tend to walk away...

Seek first to understand before being understood...

I did not criticise you in anyway above I said that those type of responses were useless... so just chill a bit will you...

Some people lose time with other people when they post such things as "oooh i have downloaded the program for free now can I make an interface without buying the program"

Perhaps the reason you didnt get as many responses as you expected was because your question was not clear enough...

Next time try:-

List all the possible nimh suppliers you can think of...

What spec computer do you run reflex on (asking if anyone is using less than the specified spec is likely to get nil responses other than the one you got about trying the demo as most will run the software on a machine above the minimum spec)

As for your OS problem it still sounds as though it is rich on the idle needle (not the main) but without a response from you saying "no thats not it I have tried that" who the hell is to know you need more suggestions...

Try to take a little more responsibility for your threads, keep people up to date and you may get more help in the future...

Just like that I gave you earlier...

Posts which have common answers, get answered a lot more. "Tail wags with GY401" will probably get a boatload of answers. However a questions like "Is a 9253 just a 9252 with a different gearset and lable" will get few to none. (And I use that as an example because I put a 9252 gearset in my 9253 and it works fine, but never did get an answer))

akforsyth,

A lot of the questions in here are duplicated so using the SEARCH feature will usualy give you a faster response.

I'm not suprised you didn't get many answers I doubt there are many people on here who would know the answer. I know I wouldn't and because I wouldn't have know I wouldn't give a response. I usually only give advice on a problem I have actually had rather than heard about, I wouldn't "guess" at an answer although a few people do.

Just my opinion of course

akforsyth: you are right and wrong...

There are a lot of individuals who will help you in a second.. They might not be the regular online users like others..

There are also a lot of others that uses this forum as the Jerry Springer Show.. Sometimes I myself is also guilty of subscribing to a few of those thread out of sheer boredom.

Then there are some who writes useless comments in a post that has no relevance other than to increase post count or to get under your skin. I wonder why they think that it works...

anyway.. This site is still the BEST... I myself have started a thread about opinions on how to make the site better....

Ive noticed that if I post a good question or problem, (at least I think its a good one) Ill only get a few replies. Sooooooooo, Ill re-post it at another time, and it'll get a boatload of replies. Timeing perhaps? Keep in mind the floks here are typing and on their keyboards and reading posts in all time zones. I think the people here are GREAT, although sometimes silly. The sillyness is often entertaining, and in my screwed up world a good laugh is worth gold. All in all this site cant be beat, so keep on tryin!!

Galifrey, I purposefully posted open ended questions in order to get numerous responses. Are you saying that with my OS question, no one else has an opinion other than it is probably running rich? If this is a starting point for everyone, well I do not know that, that is why I ask.

As for reflex, when I was away I never did anything to do with helicopters. I never even came here once. I asked the questions because I did not know, not because I was trying to get something for nothing (in which I believe you are implying). For all I knew at the time Reflex was like FMS. Fortunately I have found their website now and discovered otherwise. Like my response said, I thought it was interesting that a company would hold the interface instead of the CD. I believe it is very forward looking on their part, and really a good idea.

As for a clear enough question. Fair enough some are not, I will conceed that point. On the other hand a question like: "Where is a good place to get new NiMH packs? " is fairly clear. I appreciated the two responses immensely. I am sure there has to be more than two responses out there and I am frustrated with the search option bringing up everyhting to do with batteries.

So now I pose that question to you. Do you know more than two decent places to purchase NiMH packs? I believe (although there is a good possibility that I am wrong) that most experienced heli pilots on here (yourself included, you really seem to know your stuff) do, or at least can point a junior member in the right direction.

As for the computer question, it was answered. I am not refering to all of my posts out there. I refered to one specific post in the initial post here, you brought in the extraneous ones that were of no concern to me. Really most of my posts have been decent, but I have noticed that other junior members sometimes are really ignored by some. Maybe their posts seem trivial, I do not know. This was my original question.

good point Armegeddon. Maybe I am remembering the 'good ol days' too much. Two years ago there seemed to be more of the help, less of the getting under the skin types.

No one here ever said this was not a great site. This is the best heli site bar none. Just noticed changes in the past couple of years, that all. Wondering why they might have occurred.

In2Helis, I agree with you. I have had great help from people with 10 posts and nothing but crap from people with over 1000 posts. I think post count only means how much you are on the computer, how much you want to be heard, or sometimes it reflects how much some people know.

I miss the good old days where everyone flamed Seneca no matter what he said!!! Some of that was pretty funny, useless, but funny.
