e-Electric Batteries & Chargers > Charging LiPo's....

I have a 3-cell 11.1 volt 2100mah Lithium-Polymer high-discharge battery. My "fast" charger claims it takes around 1-2 hours to charge. I'm noticing about an hour. Is this truely a fast charge for a LiPo? Do they make chargeres that that charge faster?

The time it takes to charge a LiPo battery depends on what your charging it at? I charge mine no higher then 1.5A. Also, your battery is never empty so it really doesn't have to charge the whole amount that it says it can hold. Usually I run my batteries down to 1/4 left, then I recharge them. Don't run your battery down until their empty or you will ruin them.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Thanks Saint728, but my charger is a simply plug and charge. It doesn't offer a variable charging rate. Can you recommend a good charger? What the duration to full charge at 1.5amps?

I have a cr_ppy charger, but I can change my charging amps. The batteries take about 70-90 minutes to charge. It really depends on how low I ran my battery. There are many good chargers out there that will do a great job charging your batteries. It really depends on your budget and if you plan on using bigger batteries (more cells). I would suggest the Orbit Microlader V6.2 Charger, Orbit Microlader V6.2 Pro Charger and Schultze lsl6-330d Charger. They all are great chargers. The Orbit is about $235.00, the Orbit Pro is $325.00 and the Schultze is $189.00. There are chargers that are cheaper then the ones I listed, but they don't have as many charging options.

Thanks,

It's my first electric heli, the draganflyer IV. Although I just bought a Hornet II as well. Have you any experience with other typer of batteries such as Lithium Ion, Nickle metal hydride, or Nickle Cadium? Tecnhically I know squat about electric lingo and want to learn more. Like knowing the difference between amps and volts, and etc. I have no idea?

I don't use Lithium Ion batteries, so I can't comment on them. I use both NiMh and NiCd batteries. I think the main difference is the NiCd batteries have a higher discharge rate then the NiMh's. I also think the NiCd batteries are heavier and have a charging memory. I don't really know that much about batteries, I've just read about them, so I really don't understand all the differences or what makes a better battery. I just go with what I like. If someone can show me that one is better then the other then I will change over.

Each battery cell has a specific volt. So when you have them in a battery pack the total volts go up as you add more batteries. A NiCd/NiMh battery will have 1.2V per cell, so if you have 4 cells together you will get a 4.8V battery pack, a 5 cell battery pack will net you 6.0V, 9 cells will give you 9.6V, etc. As for amps I think that has to do with charging batteries? But I'm not really sure, so I'm not going to say.

Hey Razmo

You might look at the AstroFlight 109 charger, its cheaper(at $130 out the door). It'll charge 1-9 LiPo's, 1-6 up to 8amp's, 7-9 5.5 amp's depending on your power supply.

I bought one at the AMA show in Ontario, Ca. Great little charger plus there only 3 miles from my place, and all the people there are Great!!! Sometimes on the Phone they can be alittle rushed... But whenever I go down there they'll talk, sometimes too much. hahaha

Great Flying!!!
