Try this.

3DNT is ace for chaos.. However, when the tail rotor spindle sheers and the whole tail rotor comes off it leaves you in a bit of a sticky situation

How pleased was I after I hit the throttle hold and managed to prio flip it down with no engine in for a no damage hard landing!

Geez that was close.. anyone had that happen to them?.. the spindle just snapped right where the tail hub fits on!
I was so happy to get it down with no damage I felt like a dog with two dicks

pic

Hi,

I would, but I dont have a digital camera.

It broke flush with the tail hub.. so the hub is now off, with a neatly filled in hole...

It is a very clean break

Don't suppose there was anyone standing in the pits with a guilty grin on thier face and a hacksaw blade in the hand behind their back was there

HI helifever,

It has probably done around 4hrs total flying time.

There is a small possibility it was caused by a high frequency vibe, but I'm not sure yet.

well, i had a main rotor shaft that broke in flight just at the bolt in the main center unit and also a paddle 2003 where 3/4 broke of.

In both times it didn't land the way it should be

Are you using the 2003 tail blade grips ??

I was told you can get vibrations using carbon blades on the 2002 model which i have , the 2003 grips have fixed this and allows you to run carbon blades

Hi BigChopper & Darren,

I am flying the 2003 version of the NT. The included manual says on page 5: "Don't use carbon fiber tail blades, they offen cause vibrations".

I really thougt about using CF blades, but I will take this issue as a warning.

Thanks,
Holger

I have a copy of the July 2003 Manual, it does not say you can't use carbon tail blades on page 5.

What Rev. manual do you have?

Tail Rotor Blades: K&S 95mm / 5g Henseleit Part-No NT-0309
Do not use carbon tail blades, there are not flexible enough and cause vibrations on this helicopter.

That web page has not changed for a very long time, if you have a look at the latest manual (July 03) there is no mention of not using carbon blades.

I bought my 3DNT 3003 ver. from Rev Models, they told me that with the latest version it was ok to us carbon tail blades. I suppose the official answer would have to come from Jan.

John

You can download the latest manual from Jan's wes site

I have the latest manual and you are right it does not say no carbon blades..

its just says "Henseleit Part-No NT-0309 "

I am sure Russ uses carbon blades on his NT.. will have a look today..

Russ and a NT ???

He does use carbon tail blades like alot of others do.

But most of the time you will see they are NHP's, maybe the fact that they are very light weight helps, but that stll doesnt over come the rigidity they have, which isnt recomended by Jan

Spoke to Russ before and if you have the blade grips with the "extra" bit on , carbon blades , NHP 95 will be fine

I did try the carbon's on my 2002 model before and now going back to the plastic ones , there is definatly no vibration now ... not unless I go above 1700 head speed
