Scale Model RC Helicopters > Pics of my almost done Bell 47 - any tips?

I am almost done with my Bell 47G and flew the hell out of it today. Still have the cockpit to finish with water transfers and seat belts. Flying wise, it's taking me forever to dial in the GY501 with that massive tail but it flys great for a 24 lb heli. I might try the 90:18 gears rather than the 87 tooth set I have now.

Any tips on completing the cockpit or comments on the job? Let me know as this is my first scaler. Could it compete sport scale as I've never competed anything before and this is even the first time I did rivets.

Here are the pics:

then click the link under the one pic for a dozen detailed pictures.

Thanks...

Do you want some scale pictures?

There is a Bell 47 sitting out in the hangar at my work. It looks pretty much like yours except the tail tubing is painted black. I'll be able to get pictures posted by tommorow since I don't have my digital camera handy.

BTW, Fury_Ivr, the pilot does sit on the left in the Bell 47.

Thanks for the compliments! It's a Vario and I can't wait to finish the interior and show you again. I like doing scale work. I dislike the time it takes and the frustration of "looking for some tiny bit of something wierd at the craft store with all the obsessive / compulsive women" that it entails. Is it a love-hate thing for everybody?

You know I thought the pilot sat on the right like in most helis but I have over 30 pics of different 47G's flying and the pilot, when alone, always sits on the left (probably due to weight/balance issues specific with this heli). I also have numerous pics of pilot/co-pilot taking off and the guy flying is always on the left too. Freaked me out first too though!

Still have some gyro issues (minor and the tank plumbing is surprisingly simple yet there are intricacies to letting the system equalize pressure after filling and before plugging or you get siphoning out of the working vent lines (top). That little phenonema has resulted in two autos so far as I ran out of gas. I think I have that licked though.

I got my own domain so check out www.madmanrc.com for updates and more pics.

Bell 47

I have a friend that has a Bell 47. He sits on the left side. I got a chance to go fly with him and he let me fly it around for a while. Tougher than i thought. I kept slowing down or speeding up too much. I think its the best heli to do sight seeing in. You can see straight down almost. I have some 40 pics or so of every detail there was to take of. Name the specifics and i can get them if i dont. Heli looks just like yours too.

Madman, that heli is beautiful! Do be careful when you fly it OK? As far as I know, the pilot on the left side of the heli was due to the collective stick being hinged aft of the seat cushion to give leverage and suffichent travel (no power assist!)...the second collective stick that comes out of and below the bench seat cushion for the right side pilot could be removed so three people could get into the cabin and comes out at a different angle so it is not as easy to use as the left side pole! This was true for most helis of the era, B-47G, Hiller 12, etc. Maxx
