I am for war not against it. War keeps people from doing wrong in a big way.

Until man can control aggression we will not have a chance in hell to ever better ourselves.

If they could find a gene in the human chromosomes that cause aggression and take it out for future generations we might have a chance.

When we get to that point we will be completely defenseless from everything around us.

Could you imagine a world without aggression?

Hell our own pets would eat us instead of ALPO.

There is always a trade off for everything.

I don’t have the answer anymore then the next person

This is just my thoughts and opinion

Hold on a sec

Before you go any further, I saw this video on the news. In the link, the beginning is missing. The part that you missed was one of those "farmers" tossing an RPG (rocket propelled grenade) launcher into the field several yards past the tractor.

The military was criticized for killing them with a 30 MM cannon but that was the smallest weapon they had on the chopper (I believe it was an Apache). There was no criticism for for justification. . . . only for the caliber. They had orders, clearance and justification.

Like it was said already, it wasn't pretty but it was justified. That RPG would have been used against us or other allies.

Glenn.

I'm not really an R/C pilot, I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night!

Helidog,

I think you missed my point (maybe because of my poor english).

I do not blame any soldiers - they are human being under extreme pressure - its natural that they are "jumpy".

The problem is more like a strategic/general issue - if the iraqis turn against the US because of the high number of civilian casualties (for whatever reason), soon-later Iraq will be lost. At least if no one is planning to blast off Iraq's current 40+ million population, but I think this is out of question.

I do not understand your theory about communication problems - in your example the exchange student went to US, where the majority of people speak english...
...consequently - do you suggest that the US soldiers in Iraq should speak/learn arabic? I don't think it would be possible...

(the Hungarian guy killed was driving a car - so communication was not an issue there).

Glenn in Den,

Again, this case may be justified as your wrote - I am talking about a general problem over there.

Anyway, I think we are a bit away from helis by now...

Regards,

Chip

I understand and I take no offence.

Its funny we can’t even type and post without misunderstandings or arguments on RR.

Hell we have communication problems in the USA all the time. I wish we all spoke English. There are many different people from all over the world living in the USA.
And they don’t all speak English. This is what happened to the student when he got shot
The home owner didn’t understand,, "fear" took over and he shot him because of a communication problem.

As far as the solders are concerned, my point is that we are all human and will all act the same way under fear and stress no matter how much training. Training just teaches you how to control those emotions so you will stop and think before getting your ass shot off.

Its one hell of a world we all live in isn’t it?

I agree with Val.....Been there and let me tell you what, I got 14 bullet holes in my aircraft...6 in the fuel cell (thats supposedly self sealing yeah right) 2 in the engine and the rest in different spots...you get shot at for awile and you do get jumpy...if you got the ROE (rules of Engagement) you use em' now granted you are supposed to reply with a "like amount of force" that being said, do you really know what cal. gun is being shot at you? no. I shoot back with a 50 cal. cause thats what I got, all the rule is saying is if you get shot at you cant drop a nuke on em'....and if you have probable cause...light em' up....I saw plenty of so called civilians....with big guns and rockets...its all situational dependent...and up to the discretion of the pilot (after he is informed of the ROE)and the brass over him. I have been in situations where I couldnt shoot back....that sucks....Now dont get me wrong I dont enjoy killing people....but if its a choice between him or me....I'm taking me and my helicopter back home, I dont remember who said it, but I quote "dont ever die for your country......make the other guy die for his"
