UPS Woes

We're sitting in the house, both my wife and myself.
We see the Brown Airplane Truck (as my kids call it) pull up.
The driver, a woman honks her horn a couple times.
My wife gets up to answer the door and the driver is scurrying away already. She wouldn't even bring it to the door. My wife goes outside and under the carport in infront of her car is a package.

Would it be too much just to bring it to the door?

This has happened before. We order something then can't understand where it is. We track the package online and it says it's been delivered.
We go out and search around the house and the breezeway under the carport and low and behold it's there. It was nice to know that no one in the neighborhood stole it but damn it I was waiting to play with that new toy a week ago!

Now if I have a choice I pick Fedex!

Its been a long time since I did it, but UPS and Fedex both have a "package delivery location" instruction card you can fill out, and they will deliver to that spot every time as long as its not violating their rules (no inside locations, no garages, must be a legitimate address, etc.)

They always put mine on the back porch since I filled out the form. I think you can do it at the UPS website, and Fedex has it on the back of their "delivery notification" form.

I had the same thing happen as M3 (left a $99 servo on the car). I had a load of lumber that I was delivering. It was too long to fit in the truck, so it was resting on the headache rack and slanting down like a slide, towards the back of the truck. It was real slick and started slidding off the truck into the road. I saw this happen and immediately did a U-turn. By the time I got back (a few 100 feet maybe?) a dude had screeched to a stop and was loading it up. He told me he was picking it up for me....yeah...... right.......

Not related to helis.. But again someone picking up something that did not belong to them...

My brother had an older 67 chevy pickup. It was nice.. We were stopping at a friends house in the desert. Dirt road and bumpy. Next thing I hear is some clanging. It was the spare tire carrier. It had come loose and the spare was in the road. So we turn around to pick it up and some guy is putting it in theback of his car. He wanted to argue with us about it, until he saw that we had just returned from target shooting.

Not so long ago I had FedEx claim an airplane kit was delivered and signed for, yet no package. I checked the tracking infomation and it was signed for by "F. Rontdoor"! I called FedEX and they took a couple days to contact the driver...low and behold the package showed up on the doorstep as soon as they contacted the truck driver.

I gotta' tell you that I continue to be "underwhelmed" by both UPS and FedEx. I actually witnessed and subsequently confronted a UPS driver after he launched one of my deliveries from Heliproz from about mid-drive-way (approximately 30 feet) with a beautifully, arching jump-shot. Package was light and contents were not damaged, however he didn't get off the hook that easily. We first had a drive-way discussion that was one-way from me to him, then I made a phone call and spoke with two supervisors who assured me it wouldn't happen again...yeah right....until the next time. I also take issue with UPS driving practices. We are in a residential area with a large number of young people and a large diesel powered UPS turd coming through the neighborhood at NASCAR speeds does not promote longevity for these young people....as stated, I remain "underwhelmed."

Everyone is familiar with the poor handling of packages by "OOPS" and the inevitable damage to the contents. That is why I always slightly over insure the contents of anything I ship. That way when I have to go through the trouble of filing a claim and the wait involved before being paid I at least have a chance of getting the full value.

As for leaving a package on the step without a signature, that has become a standard practice. In doing so they know that a certain amount of these items will be stolen or the recipient will report that he did not receive it. Since they do not have any valid proof of delivery they will eventually pay for the item. Even though they pay out money for these claims, they still say that they are ahead in the end because of the money and time they save not having to make second delivery attempts. I guess customer satisfaction doesn't have any value to them. They really don't care if they inconvenience you in any way as long as they make a profit. Besides they are the only means of shipping around right........NOT!!

As a merchant, when they do this the customer will be looking for a proof of delivery. Since they cannot provide one, they dispute the charge on the credit card and the merchant cannot provide proof of delivery so they debit the merchant. In the end, the merchant is hung out to dry until he can get his claim processed.

The moral of the story.....Anytime you ship anything of value, require a signature before delivery even if it costs a bit more. It will help to eliminate fraud and theft.

I have had packages shipped to me from heliproz and HP by UPS three times and everytime they leave it on the porch!!! No honk of the horn, knock on the door.. I even made a large 8 1/2" X 11" sign with an arrow pointing at the doorbell that said "RING ME" and taped it over the doorbell!!! And all my shipping labels have the instruction "DO NOT LEAVE ON PORCH!!!" printed on them from UPS!! The only shipment I have ever had someone knock on the door for was from RChelisplus and was shipped USPS.

Overall It does'nt matter who you choosethey all pretty much suck.

A word to the wise ain't necessary. It's the stupid ones that need the advice.

Hobby Shops steal too!!

I was about 12 and I just got a Kyosho Corvette ZR-1 gas and wanted the body painted. They took down the details and did not paint it correctly. When I came in, they looked at the work order and realized they messed up. I later came with my dad to pick it up and they said that was how I wanted it and could not find the work order. I could not prove that it was their fault as they took my copy previously...learned from that one. They were supposed to order a new body and paint it for free. Needless to say, they did not last in business and in the end, they got the worst between the two of us.
