Hi,

I was wondering how well the TT70 engine is working out. Is it reliable, is it finicky, does it run well on low nitro and the stock muffler?

Thanks

They're GREAT Engines!

So far, I've had good experience with two of them. The break in well, run strong, are tolerant of needle settings, are extremely reliable, have good throttle transition and response and are very easy to start.

You just gotta love 'em!

I've had the exact opposite experience with 2 TT .70 engines.

Neither got past the break-in stage. Both would flood on the low-end, making it hard to start. I ran the engines rich and they would still die in flight. There is one guy that I know whose TT .70 runs well. The rest replaced their TT with an OS or YS. I'm not saying that you can't get them to run correctly. However, there's a reason why you don't see questions like this raised about OS or YS. Spend the extra money and fly instead of tune.

jheli: I have an OS that has 3 gallons through it. Going with the .91. I'm selling it for $135 shipped. This engine fires immediately and runs like a dream.

Here's a post I found on RunRyder:

Thunder Tiger Pro .70 heli engine and Raptor .60 muffler- both w/o damage, less than 2 gallons............going to YS.

$100 SHIPPED to the lower 48. PAYPAL VERIFIED. Email me ASAP!

YS STII Got Hammered...

I guess they all have their problems. Here's a pic of my almost new YS STII that had about four gallons through it. Something let loose inside and hammered the piston top and cylinder head. After MUCH hassle and delay, YS repaired it under warranty. Nothing was sucked in through the carb as I was running an air filter.

You're right. There is a lemon in every engine manufacturer's bunch. However, I still trust OS and YS over TT.

Well after two gallons of fuel my new ys 80 quit well flying. After taking the motor apart to see what happened I found the piston and liner where taost.

One of the rist pin clips came out. I guess these would normally be a warrenty issue but I need the motor this weekend so I bought the stuff my self to rebuild it. The scary part of this hole thing is the piston and liner are half the price of a new engine DAMN!

So I guess all can have a bad apple in the bunch

Bill,

What % nitro and what plug are you using? Did you do any kind of break-in?

Zxyxx,

I've already ordered the TT70.

Run it rich. If you run it lean, you'll be sending it back to Ace for repair. Good luck.

jheli,

To answer your questions, I'm running the Enya #3 plug and 30% nitro. Run it rich for a couple of gallons, then gradually lean for power. The engine will run rough (fuel foaming in the tank) for about a gallon, then it'll smooth out real nice. Don't baby it. Fly it almost normally, then let it cool, fly it normally, let it cool, etc.

I took my tt70 apart when i got it and found the machining on the sleeve to be terrible. Next motor will be 61 wc.
