Add £3500 for a turbine and then multiply it by £1=$1.82 and you end up around $12,000. Now it doesn't look so good.

The pound has dipped against the dollar, it may be prudent to wait a little while and see if it drops some more.

Yea, i came up with the $12,000 ballpark also .. (actually subtract the vat from that, which should also drop it by 1 or 2 K i think) .. anyway, i think $12K is not that bad at all ... it compares very nicely to what i have put into my bell 230, my SB-90 and EC-135, which are of significantly smaller size .. ...

you are right about waiting however ... I have at least 6 months worth of helicopters and jets to build/assemble, so for now i will wait and see what happens with the Euro (or £) vs/ the $ .....

I still do have to say the side exhaust just really bothers me .. i would definately not fly with it ... for this reason alone, i might go with Len mounts mechanics, and just use the rotors and swash set up from Vario (hey, and output shaft is an outputshaft as long as the rpms match) .. this way i would just have to route the turbine exhaust up and out the top (where itssupposed to be)

Also, i really hope that Vario is following up the big jetranger with somehting like a big bell 222, 230, or even better yet a multibladed 430 !! ... a 1/4 scale ec135, or an airwolf would not be bad either ...

Also Peter, im curious to know what marvel you might be working on at the moment ..

WREN Turbine Heli Unit

Hey All,

With regards to the Heli Turbine unit being developed by Wren Turbines in the UK and Perth R/C in Australia. I live just a few miles from theWren factory and speak to them quite often as i am interested in a turbine 3D heli myself but as SPS no longer produce the turbine unit since moving from Wren to Jetcat i have been following Wrens development with interest.

They tell me that the unit used in the MHW article and other units using the Wren Gas Gen turbine unit do not have a govenor like on the PHT3 jetcat heli turbine so it has to be used like a conventional 2Stroke engine on the pitch/throttle curves so the engine may be producing move power than needed.

They have informed me that a govenor is in the pipeline from orbit or fadec, canm't remember who they said were producing it but it will be available very shortly.

Hey Dave, The H500E has flown and is awesome! it's hard to put into words the sound/smell and presence it has! brilliant!

Cheers!
