Henseleit 3DNT - Rocket - 3DMP > Flybar length

After having a minor mishap at the field , the NT fell over , . I bent the flybar ..

But checking the manuals for 2002 and 2003 models , the length of the flybar to paddles has changed and I am guessing this is because of different paddles previously ??

I believe I have the 2003 paddles ( pic in gallery ) so would I set these to 155mm ??

Cheers

Flybar?

The current "Manual" states 155 mm . . .Correct, so have at it!
I also have the same paddles.

I have the 2003 version. Your paddles are different to mine.

Both ends of my paddles are straight, yours are curved and stepped.

I am not sure when they changed to the "straight" style.

the length of flybar is 560mm without paddel. It is in 2002-2003 the same. Only the paddel have change to get a rearly better flight on high speed.

OK , got it sorted now

In the 2002 manual with the paddles I have its 165mm from the paddle to collar. The depth inside the paddles does not allow me to screw it on the recommended 35mm. Inside depth is 30mm , so guess I will go for the 165mm .

This leads me onto though , whether its worth getting the 2003 paddles to reduce the flybar length for extra stability around the hover.

Has anyone flew both models ?

Darren,

I flew both models, my own 3DNT with the old style(curved end) paddles, and the new ones (straight end) on a 3DNT 2003 belonging to a friend and that I finished the setting up.

At my level, it does not worth switching :
Rolls are a bit faster but anyhow I added some weight at 1/3 of the flybar to decrease the roll rate.
A friend with a higher flight level (crazy 3D) told me that the new ones are a bit better ie more stable in backward flying and increase the flip rate...

Should you really wish to upgrade to a 2003 model here is my view :

*New AC fork because I always thought the flexible one should be fragile when flying with cold weather. (although I did not break it, nor seen someone brake it, but heard about some that did)
*New AC pulleys as they decrease the travel speed of the belt allowing to have an higher rotor speed (up to 2000rpm) without vibrations in the tail boom. (I did have a vibration at 1800rpm that disapeared)
New landing gear, to get the 3DNT closer to horizontal, making take-offs and landings easier, specially for autorotations.

(I already upgraded the ones with * ).

New AC Fork ?? is that the tail pitch upgrade

I can personally account for the landings on autos

Only cost me £50 , but got the bits now

Darren,

As Nocontrol warns on his message, "english is not my home language".. yes it must be the tail pitch upgrade, ie a plastic part which was 1 piece before, flexible enough, and now still plastic but rigid and articulated in 3 pieces, looking a lot less fragile.

A 3DNT flyer (Thierry) near Paris has adapted a Millenium landing gear trough an extension of the frame he built using aluminium L shape pieces.
Ugly, maybe, but absolutely required to land on the airfield of his club.
Now he can land safely despite his field being far from flat and horizontal.

Upgrade

I'd vouch for the tail pitch fork upgrade!

Mine broke in flight! scary..
In the cold it is particularly brittle.

Did you use your 3DNT in the 3D Masters last year?

John,

Hi there.. No I didn't in the end... I was planning to... but I had a servo failure and re-kitted the bugger I went through a real trauma with it at first getting rid of the now famous 1750rpm vibe!

The plan at the masters was then to fly my millenium.. However, best bitz then gave me the option of trying out their prototype 'extreme' head on the Raptor 50 I had.. so I did that and got used to it.

So....I was gonna fly the Millenium, but then the hex part on the engine which excepts the starter adapter decided to break.. so I couldn't start the thing! (this was just before I was about to fly!).. So I ended up with the Raptor 50 and did ok in the end :-)

Anyway I rebuilt the 3DNT a couple of months after the masters so it's up and running again... You never know I might use it this year. I'm planning on entering but I'll be in the experts cat next time so I'm expecting to get a good thrashing!

John, do I know you in person, I dont recognise your login name?!

Thanks for the reply Andy.

No you don't me, I just got looking at your profile and noticed you had entered the 3DM. I was there last year as a spectator only

I had a keen interest in seeing 3DNT's flying, from what I can remember I think there was only about 3 or 4. Anyway it would be great to see you fly the 3DNT this year

Cheers
