| Stock Raptor PaintThere is a right way and a wrong way to paint the famous "Clorox Bottle" that we call the stock raptor canopy. This is truly what you are painting.
If you want a decent paint job out of a can, then there is only (1) series of spray paints that I can recommend. Frankly, they really aren't that bad.
If you spray out of a can here is what I recommend, but keep in mind that most people can succesfully spray with a gun as well. Here is what I would advise for your first experiment:
1. Sand with 220 to fully scuff the canopy.
2. Plasticote adhesion promoter.
3. Plasticote flexible primer.
4. 400 grit light wet sand.
5. Adhesion promoter, and another 2 coats of flexible primer.
6. Wet sand with 600 at this point. More water, less elbow grease.
7. Rustoleum "Hard Hat series" white as a base coat.
8. Rustoleum "Hard Hat series colors, including neons".
9. Remember to wet sand good with 600 inbetween sprays for adhesion.
10. Yes you can successfully fade with a spray paint can. Many years of a mis-spent youth taught a lot of us! LOL>
11. After all colors are laid, wet sand again.
12. Clear with the "Hard Hat" series Clear. This is by far the most glossy, cheap, versatile product that I have found mixed in a can. It builds well, resists fuel and looks killer for spray paint. Give it a shot and let me know how it turns out.
Here is a pic of a Raptor 60 canopy that I shot exclusively with "Hard Hat" series aerosols, just to see the final product.
