I put a pull start OS 32 in my quick 30 learner. I noticed I haven't seen many helis with a pull start engine and I was wondering if this is a bad idea. Is there some reason that I should not have done this? I'm asking because you seem to have all the answers that I do not. This is my first Nitro heli.

Thank you

Pull starts were popular a few years back when a number of helis, e.g. the Shuttle, used belt starts. Now that most helis use a hex start
system, which is a lot easier to use and far more reliable than a belt
start , the pull start has been largely forgoten. There is no reason, however, why you shouldn't use the pull start if you want to.

What I really like to see is electric starts on these small motors.. I am sure those small 540 electric motors with one way bearing connected to start shafts will works quite well. As long as the battery pack not too heavy but putting out enough voltage to starts the engines. that would be cool.

Another reason that the hex start is so popular is that it is lighter than the pull start.

I think if I owned some monster 4 stroker scale work of art that never gets flown, I'd install an onboard electric starter... but for the daily beater.... I am trying to install a harley davidson kick starter on my doo....

I think that the extra three oz weight will make no noticable difference
to the helis performance, after all thats only about 3% of the helis all up
weight, and I cannot see how the pull start makes any significant difference to the output power of the engine.
