there's nothing wrong with taking some precautions during initial setups. Especially on a high priced machine like that.

Training Gear? now that is funny......
Did he think the training gear would hold up to a 20 + lb heli..... And it would have been hilarious if they caught on fire

if you have to use training gear, that means you can barely hover, not to mention probably not being able to do forward flight, loop, rool, or an auto .. all of which are required to get a waiver to flu a turbine heli ...

So .... training pants on a Jetcopter are just plain funny (and a little stupid)

Hey,

if the guy had no waiver fine .. but one would think your at least know how to perform basic flight manouvers before jumping into a turbine heli .... if you can not have enough controll over a rc heli that you need training pants, then you should not be trying to fly a heavy bird with a lot of weight and momentum like most turbine helis are ... even if not for safety's sake, do it for your walet !! crash a raptor a few times befor you atempt planting a $6000 heli ... ( I plant raptors all the time , 2 this week already )

There is a big difference between choosing to use gear for safety sake and needing to use gear to keep from crashing. We all know someone REQUIRING training gear should'nt be flying a turbine, however if someone did use training gear for the initial startup of thier newly built turbine then maybe it's not a bad idea. We have no evidence that he was using gear designed for glow heli's. I don't see anything but speculation above. Maybe it was made from hardened steel rods? maybe it was never intended to prevent a crash but simply to get a cautious pilot over the first flight. Maybe they were just unsure how touchy the machine would be? Who knows for sure, did you ask them while you were there? What did they say? If a turbine showed up at my field I'd be over in a minute to see it, not off laughing in the sidelines. I would want to know just for my own safety who was flying? who built it? what is required for the certification? I'd be full of questions. but that's just me.

I was just wondering, i just took the training sticks off my jetcat. and feel that im ready for some upgrades. can someone please tell me where i can fint the following.

Upgraded pull-start as a back for when the electronic goes out.

new set of self lubricating teflon bearings for the turbine so that i can use the Jet-A fuel without oil. (this makes the turbine go faster i hear)

and last but not least.

there is a special button head that contains a parachute. it activated from a seperate remote button and when released it deploys a chute that run on a bearing so that the head may still spin while the chute is out. this way you have time to put you radio down and go chase your 20lb heli and catch it before it smacks into the gound

I am also ready to remove my whiffle balls and i too am looking for a secure foam system to help in recovery from a sudden meeting with mother earth, this system must have a proximity alert system to activate the secure foam system. Hay Rob the pull start system sounds cool.... I will need one of them as well or at least an adapter for my dynatron starter.

Does anyone know of a liquid oxygen system to accelerate the turbine cool down sequence? this will work in conjunction with the secure foam system.....

I think what you need is a foam system just like in that police car that Sylvester Stalone drove into the moat in that futuristic movie. The one where they bring him back into service after he was freeze dried for several years.
