Aerial Photography and Video > pointing camera at the sun?

I got my first flights in with the camera mount I made today and I pointed it right into the sun. Does any one know if that is very bad for a digital camera. I think the directions said not to do that.

Pointing to the sun

Hi...
CCDs are not pretty much affected by direct sun rays, in the early days of CCD imagery existed a very annoying "smear" effect (vertical white lines croosing all picture height) when a bright spot was shot.
Just as a precaution dont leave the camera exposed to sun rays for a long time.
Saludos!

Have you ever played with a magnifying glass as a kid, to start paper or dried leaves smoking ?

The camera may get damaged by the suns rays coming in through the lens. Folks have had burn marks on their shutters, and CCD elements have had what shows up as orange streaks or splotches on them.

One fellow was taking timed photos out his window, and the sun burned an arc across his CCD. Another left his camera facing up on a picnic table without a lens cap on it.

In any event, it is something to think about.
