Hi all,
Help, ive got a old robbe power peak charger which is due its retirement but i carn't decide between a schulze 330d or the Titon ?

Both are about £100 GBP, ive currenlty not got any lipo's (but matbe in the future) and will use it mainly to charge TX / RX (2700nmih) batterys.

Anyone got any views ???

Do not buy a (Titon) Triton?....

If you plan to charge Li-Ion, Li-Po, or Lead Acid Batteries I recommend not buying a Great Planes/Electrifly Triton charger.

You are better off with a Schulze or Orbit.....at least they work correctly.

Triton problems..

Do a search for "Triton" and read them.

I sent back my last Triton (along with two previous ones) for a refund.

They worked poorly when charging Li-Po, Li-Ion, and sealed Lead Acid batteries. Just try some basic discharging and charge cycles and see what you come up with. Also take note of the charge current when doing the Lithiums. See if you can charge them at 1C - Good Luck!

I now have a Orbit Microlader V6.3 and have no complaints. It works the way it should and even does those so called "defective batteries" labeled by Great Planes/Hobbico representatives.

I agree about the Triton. They are too limited in their performance, only charging 4s LiPo packs at a maximum of 2.5 amps. If you plan on staying with E-power, you will soon find the need for larger packs.

Also, a few people have had problems with them not charging batteries fully. Do a search on RunRyder for Triton and to see the details.

I would recommend the Orbit. Quite a bit more expensive but, IMHO, worth every cent. It can be upgraded to newer versions of software without having to be sent to a service center. My latest upgrade cost me about $13.00 which included shipping.

mine charges batteries at 1c all day long, even 2c if I want it to.

D-wheel- I agree that the triton is limited on its current, but for those of us charging sub 2500 mah packs it works fine.

I would strongly recommend the triton, mine has been great and you can find horror stories with any product

You mean Great Planes actually made a working Triton Charger?

I wouldn't believe you unless you showed me a picture of it. Try charging a 7.2V Li-ion pack at 1C, and also 2C. How long does it take and what did you select for current. How high did the current initially go?

the current ramps up at the begining, im not sure what you mean here, that is the way most lipo charging cycles work, other than the astro 109

For correctness sake, yes, you are flying Li-Ion. The full name for a LiPo battery is actually Lithium Ion Polymer.

The industry wide term for Lithium ion polymers is now Li-poly, By saying li-poly I just wanted to make it clear that I was not charging conventional li-ion cells at 2c

There is nothing wrong with the Triton.

In fact, it is a great charger. If you do a search, you'll find the complaints are very "limited." There are more people in support of the Triton even in those posts.

The only thing you should concern yourself with is the Triton's limit of 4 cells of lithium batteries (it will do 24 cells of nimh and nicad and it does lead acid too!). If you're SURE you will not need to charge more than 4 batteries in series, by all means save the money and hassles of learing a complex charger and buy the Triton.

Otherwise, buy the Shultze. I own a Triton and may upgrade to a Schultze someday, when I need to.
