I was wondering how much digital editing is usually done on some of your aerial photos.?!

rocketman77: I have photo shop installed on my XP system and I am learning how to use it.

I am guessing you would use the 'measuring tool' offten, in order to straighten up images that are not quite hoirzontally level?

How do you 'sharpen' and image in photo shop?

Hi Mark

In my images I use 'level's on the odd occasion to lift a slightly under exposed shop.

To sharpen go to

Filter (Top menu)
Sharpen
Unsharp mask

Ensure the layer you want to sharpen is highlighted, the option gives you snapshot of the image, and you then adjustvthe shot to get the required finish.

Beware too much makes it look horrible !

This example may give you some motivation to learn to use Photoshop. I took this image on a slightly foggy/hazy day and used the LEVELS tool to fix the low contrast.

wow to photoshop!

Wow, now that is useful. Is it even possible to do that with a 35mm image without losing the quaility of it upon scanning into a computer.

tha is some nice work there Flying eye!

I have started using photoshop recently. I have been taking images that are under exposed and over exposed, changing the colors, contrast etc... and even using the cloning stamp tool, lasso and starting to get into layer now.

thanks for the help so far. photoshop is completely amasing!

Photoshop is THE software for photo manipulation.

I am a professional who uses Photoshop every day at work.

To anyone who has Photoshop: Learn to use it. Dedicate some time and work on tutorials. Also do what Rocketman77 suggested. There is no better way to learn, than from people who use it all the time.It will do just about anything you need it to do(within reason, of course)

To anyone who doesn't have Photoshop and is considering it: BUY IT if you can afford it. You will never regret the purchase.

It is THE standard in the industry, used by countless professionals who shoot on both film and digital.

I would strongly recommend what Rocketman77 suggested. There is no better way to learn, than from people who use it all the time.

My 2 cents (No, I don't work for Adobe, but I would if they offerred)

OK, I've been playing around a little with a trial version of Adobe Photoshop 5.0 tryout that I had laying around. It also has the "levels" feature flyingeye used.

UNBELIEVABLE!

I went back through some of my pictures and WOW. Unfortunately with the free tryout you can't save the results so I can't show them off, but I was able to achieve similar results to what flyingeye illustrated.

going to have to get my hands on that program...

I don't know of any other sites available off-hand, but a person could do a search to see if there are any other user groups online.

I had to learn it on my own, fast. Since I work in broadcasting, there was little time for any training so it was sink or swim.

I wish I had known about any user groups back then. It would have made the learning curve sigificantly less steep.

The thing about Photoshop is that there are many different paths one can take to acheive the same results. I would suggest trying different ways and see what you are most comfortable with. Trial and error, so-to speak.

I have been using Photoshop for 3-1/2 years now and still am far from knowing everything it can do.

You will never get tired of it.

Good point, copterviews!

Photoshop Elements is a great program for the money.

It doesn't really do "most" of what the full version of Photoshop does, but it will definitely keep anyone busy and will probably do just about anything that the average person will ever want to do with photos.

I just get sort of caught-up in the "It's Great, It's Wonderful" sort of thing without thinking of the financial bottom line. I also use the full version of Photoshop for many graphics for television, so that doesn't really apply here so much.

Anyway, I just wanted to "second" copterviews suggestion.

I see a lot of photoshop lovers here. I saved my money for the time being and went with an open source program called GiMP. I think the interface may be a bit harder than photoshop, but it does have quite a bit of support for advanced effects. I mainly use it to un-warp pictures taken with a wide-angle lens.

The Gimp

The Gimp is also a great tool.

Indeed, the interface is a little harder to use, but does the same jobs and task and its free!!!

Its comes preinstalled by default on Linux Systems.

Its apparent you can get it for windows now aswell. just do a google search for it.
