Are they reliable?

If ya'll think it is a good idea, then what is a good brand and where to buy??

Thanks all,

I got the Pro-95 at Radio Shack, it is currently on sale for $150 instead of the usual $200. Works great!

If you get the PC cable and download the free software, you can program it from the PC - just do it!!!! It was recommended to me by Mike Freeman here on RR, who was kind enough to send me all the 72mHz and 75mHz frequencies, and I've since added the 50mHz band to the program, which I'd be happy to send along.

Here it is:

Don't fly without one! Either at a regular field or off by your lonesome taking photos!

Good luck,
Greg Pyros

I also scan before I do a shoot. I have an ICOM IC-R5. It kept me from doing a golf course shoot that was next to a tower putting off all kinds of crossed signals. I was listening to 104.9 FM on my channel 52 frequency. Needless to say, I called the customer and told them I couldn't do the shoot.

Hmmm... I was thinking about getting something to do this... I never knew WHAT to get, and how much it would cost. $150 is a REALLY cheap insurance policy for a $8000+ camera ship.

Mark, Where did you get yours / how much? Now my interest in this subject has come back after reading about it here....

Frequently the average mind gets caught up seeing only the "smaller picture." ( Is one, of the three pictures in your gallery a picture of you looking through a microscope?)

Lets just say it is the only TV that I own, and yes I have snuck a peek at it while on camping trips, but as you might have guessed, I use it for scanning rc frequencies.

Probably didn't take the time to realize that it is also capable of recieving and viewing microwave video downlinks.

I let the client hold the unit while we are flying/filming and they see everything we shoot with out having to look over my shoulder.

But, who am I to tell you this.

I am sure that you already knew this.

If you did, however you would also know that this jewel paid for itself many times over.

for you it makes sense.

for the large % of the population who
want to use it for RC freq. interference,
it's overkill and while I don't have an
R5, I did read several reviews of it
and I based my statement on those
reviews and the tradeoffs involved.

My point is this,

Sure if you are looking for a deal, than the icom 2 is a great way to go,
AS IT HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED and is probably being dumped by everyone that is holding inventory.

If I was looking at it as a cost is no object that why didn't I sugest the MA scanner at around six hundred dollars.

Or if money is at a prime, you could get one of those twenty dollar beepers that start beeping when you turn off your TX.

Start the day flying by switching on you model w/out your Tx on, and if the model beeps with your tx off, you know that if you hear a beep your channel is clear.

There, the next six pack is on you. I just saved you almost four hundred dollars.

what are you blathering about?

the R2 was only recently discontinued
and it's not like most of the people
here don't preface their 'where can I get
a xxxxxx' w/ a 'what is the cheapest'.

Sooo, it's not out of the realm of
experience that *most* people are
looking for an inexpensive solution.

And if places are 'dumping' R2's,
big deal, does that make them any
less worthwhile for their needs at
an even more attractive price.

The R5 fits a niche and it's a niche
need that you have. Fine.
That's just great but most potential users do not
have that need.

I have an R2, been using it for years and
it fits my needs. end of story.

edit.... Oops, thats supposed to be an
R3 (w/ TV screen)

WTF is everyone's damn problem. I'm really getitng pissed off at the people on RR. Stop picking fights, stop acting like children, stop giving everyone a hard time just for the hell of it. Its getting worse and worse by the day.

Flyboy, THANK YOU for the info, for sharing your setup, and not fighting back with a 10 year old's attitude.

I want a scanner, but I would like one I can program to each R/C Chan. When you turn it on, you hear silence, what does it sound like when the radio is ON tho? Sort of like a cell phone (in use) near computer speakers? (Humming cancerous noise)

Thanks,

I'm no electronics wiz but...

As long as we're talking about different price levels... couldn't a guy just use a reciver and a crystal of the channel you want to look for somehow? plug some lights into the open reciever channels or something goofy like that

You're right MPA... I won't edit it because what's done is done, and I'll deal with what I said and did... thankfully a friend PM'd me and put it back into perspective.. I was just upset that all I was reading about were stupid antics. Im over it, I've moved on... but it was something I had to get it out of my system. It'll stay up, unedited so I can remember my lesson and not repeat it.

Anyway, thanks to the person who PM'd me and put things in perspective, sorry for my brief lapse in judgment... I forgot that it is just an online fourum where people have the chance to read and learn about what they enjoy.

Anyway, "Party on Wayne"... I'm over it Thanks for the comment tho, MPA...
