e-Mikado Logo 400 500 600 > Aluminum LOGO tailbox and ESD cure

Here is the Neeno aluminum taibox and gear for the LOGO installed. It should go a long way to stopping ESD as the all metal box will conduct static from the belt to the aluminum boom and back to accumulator ground if the boom is appropriately strapped.
An additional advantage is that the box is open making it easy to assess belt tension and condition.
German only instructions not withstanding, assembly was straightforward. Lots of close tolerance spacers were included to seat the bearings exactly right for minimum gear play with free movement (something hard to do on the stock box).
One thing not mentioned in the instructions, the belt is a hair too short with the boom in stock position. It has to be turned around so that the end notches are forward, allowing more movement in the forward tail boom holder. The notches are not needed and detract from appearances anyway.
The shiny rotor disc is for fun, weighs the same as Mikado plastic tuning part.

Nice looking tail box and rotor head brake. I ordered those and a bunch of other parts but still haven't got mine yet? I ordered them on October 28 and paid for it on the 30th. Volker said he sent my parts out a few days ago, but he didn't include the rotor head brake, because it wasn't ready yet. It's been over a month since I paid for them. Anyway, the parts look well made. Will keep you posted when my things arrive.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

I don't think their that hard to get, I think it's more like they get the parts when you order them? Some of the things they sell on that web site is made when you order it, so it says it will take two weeks until their ready. A couple of other guys ordered things from there and they just received their order. Mine should be here this comming week sometime. Check out their web site and order some things. The prices are reasonable and it looks like the parts are well made. Here's the link http://www.modellbau-liste.de/Shop/...satz_tuning.htm

Volker kept me informed via email after my order. Some parts were out of stock (sound familiar?) but as soon as they were avaialble it took 7 days to get to USA. He took a personal check for payment. I didn't find it much different than shopping a state side web site. GIve it a try.

umm

What's ESD and is it an issue when using a separate receiver battery in a Logo 24?

Vinnie:

ESD is electrostatic discharge (a static spark)
It's a random event - unpredictable - It really has nothing to do with your source of power as the tail boom where the ES buildup is most likely to be generated is not ordinarily connected to your power supply. It is just as likely to get into your receiver with a separte battery. The whole idea in grounding the boom is to try to direct the ES potential to something relatively resistant to it so that it can dissipate into the environment or if a discharge occurs, it will happen in a somewhat predictable manner and not run rampant through the electronics of the Rcvr or ESC.
If you have a separate Rcvr battery, it might be wise to have a common ground for the Accu, Rcvr battery and tail boom.
That rubber belt on those plastic gears in that metal tube at high speeds is just asking for trouble on a cold, dry day no matter what Mikado says.
