Brett,

Video looks real good. What size heli are you using and what camera.

I'd like to try this video thing in the future.

I have this same system and until I could afford the gyro which will get rid of all the movement. (PRICELESS) I found out that the Mount was to light. The gyro weighs 2 lbs, so I added a pound to a pound and a half to make up for the gyro and the video was a lot better.

Now that I have the gyro I use it all the time. Start saving your pennies it's worth it.

Have fun be safe

"The picture is not smooth from a movement stand point and the only problem that I have with this is that the mount is advertised as that ANYBODY can go out and IMMEDIATELY start shooting broadcast quality footage even if they do not fly so good, and why does the horizon on the video footage still roll from left to right with the pendulum type leveling system that is said to eliminate this problem."

Sorry you have gripes about the mount, It has done wonderful for me,
The content of the video was not to try and be smooth, I was just flying normal forward flight playing with the setup, that is why the mount does was not leveling the horizon, you can not over come gravity in a 4 or 5 G turn!!, I am going to shot more video this weekend, and the main concern will be video quility this time.
Once again the first attempt was not for quality just to see if the Camera and video downlink system works.

Thanks,
Brett Horton

I think that it is fair to comment objectively about these flaws since others that are doing work and getting paid for it get slammed in here because they do not use this system.

I'm glad you pointed out the flaws originally... but do we need to continually harp on them? You've made your point... lets please move on. No camera system is perfect for every application.

It is amazing to me that some people have to be so negative on every post!!!

JohnD
Please understand that first I in no way represent airfoil (although I personally think there system is great), Second the video shot AS POSTED SEVERAL TIMES!!!!!!!! was a TEST, on a bumpy , windy day, Playing with the system, First flight with the video Camera, Not trying to be smooth, Nervous flying the heli and equipment worth $4000 plus, .................Please enough!
It makes someone like myself who has great potential to succeed in this business, reluctant to post ANYTHING for positive comments.

JohnD /Aircombat :

I hesitate to say you guys are idiots but what the hell is your problem?

It is obvious that Brett is just out messing around and flying the heli with no real attempts at smooth flying. He isn't even using a gyro upgrade and you guys are jumping down Airfoils' throat saying that this little clip is proof that the system doesn't work. Give me a break!

You guys act like Airfoil is claiming you can buy thier system and go shoot movies for Universal. I don't see any claims like that. Airfoil shoots footage for thier news station and it gets broadcast on the news... that is "Broadcast quality" work. You guys shoot a couple pics from the air and you're an expert. Around here we call people like you a "one gallon expert". Like the guys on RR who've flown a gallon of fuel in a heli and now they're qualified to give advice to ALL the newbies.

What's the alternative then?

It took about 65 anti AirFoil posts, but I think I'm starting to understand. There are a couple of you guys that are trying to protect us from making the mistake of purchasing the AirFoil system. I get the picture. Leaving all personal barbs aside...what alternative would you suggest...keeping in mind that most of us are not producers, pros, making over $150,000 a year etc. (but most of us are intelligent to enough to read between advertising promises without you pointing out the obvious). We don't expect to compete with the Goodyear Blimp for television coverage...just a quick peek over the neighbors fence or some neat footage to show our buddies is probably enough for most of us.
Without posting a flaming reponse (just this one time...cause you guys are kind of entertaining) please give us your recommended alternative to AirFoil...in a similar price range for us regular folks...say for under $3000...and, please limit it to your personal experience of using a system yourself...
Thanks

PS JohnD Do you get a lot of chicks with that "I am a television producer.." line?

Don't let the computer junkies discourage you in any way they're just a bunch of clowns sitting on their ass. I can tell you have what it takes to turn this into a business that can make some money if you want to. I thought your video was very good, just ignore them and keep on posting

I couldn't of said it any better myself, I wanted to copy your post

Its probably about time they changed their name again.

copterviews,

Dag, Tim, you guys are right on. If I were in copterviews's shoes I would feel the same way too. If when I was starting out with a RAPTOR 30, Canon S100 Digital Elph, and a video downlink to shoot my videos (All wirelessly recorded) and I got comments like copterviews is getting, I'd prob. have given up.. well, not true, I like to show people up and prove them wrong, but that's besides the point. The guy was havin some fun and flying around... get off his back guys.

Man, I had ZERO SECONDS worth of usable footage from those RaptorCam days (The mount was 'designed' for stills, not video) and I still managed to throw together the "Del Sol" and "Promo" videos seen at www.rchelicam.com . Those were me just messin around too.

copterviews,
Keep up the good work, listen to the guys trying to help you on this thread, they know their stuff. Congradulations in having fun and getitng a working camera ship. Have fun, keep up the good work, and improve with each flight, just like all of us do.

Also, copterviews's video is the 1st video I have seen of someone putting AirFoil mounts thru FF. Tighten up the bungees, fly a little smoother, and boom, they CAN do it.. that should shut up the critics a little at least

Have fun, Take care,
--Geoff

Copterviews,
I'm new to this stuff, and have not made the jump to where you are yet, but from a common sense point of view, I think your first video attempt looks very good. It looks like some of the more experienced videographers gave you some good advice, but you certainly now have the tools to do it right.
Congratulations. Keep posting and commenting as you progress. I am very interested in some of the equipment you considered also.
