My 14 cell packs GP3300 are only taking approx. 2600 charge ( The last 2 times). Before they took 3350 or even more. They have maybe 10 charges total. What can be the problem. Shall I cycle them ???

There are many possible problems for this behaviour e.g. very high discharge rate, overheating during charching/discharging, wrong charger/algorithm. NIMH batteries are very sensitive to temperature so more that about 50C could permanently damage them. Typical sign of such a damage is lower capacity. Another thing could be a memory effect which is believe it or not also valid to certain degree also for NIMH. Sometimes are batteries also "lazy" if charged/used improperly.

Only thing I can recommend you is to make several charge/discharge cycles with 1/10 capacity. Be sure they are not getting very hot, they should not. If you have charger with PC communication try to compare data whether batteries are getting better or not. After cycles try to make few cycles e.g. 3 with high charge and discharge amps. If capacity is decreasing after high discharge cycles then they will probably not last very long :-( whatever happened to them.

If that is the case, one of us is wrong.

I don't cycle my Nimh batteries, I peak charge them when they are low. I always thought running a nimh too low was bad for the battery, of coarse it's bad for any battery to run it to 0.00, some will flip polarity and zap. So getting less than the full 3300 is expected. I do however cycle my ni-cad packs.

Hope an expert jumps in to solve this soon
