Today for the first time my motor cut out in mid flight

Logo10/C50 15L / ESC 48-3P/ SR2600 14 cells / UEBC.

I was about 5 min. into the flight when suddenly I had no motor. All other functions were OK. I auto'd down, as soon as I touched down the motor came back. I hovered 3 inches off the ground and it cut out again after 20 seconds. I slowly hovered it back to my take off place and the cutting out happened again and again ( it ran for about 10 to 20 sec.)until the battery was empty.

All servo functions and gyro were OK, so the UBEC obviously worked.

The pack has maybe 8 flights on it.

I am recharging right now and will try again to fly this battery pack staying at low altitude for safety.

What could it be ???

well

How about the obvious problem of connections not being tight?

Maybe a soldered joint is loose?

Could you have the dreaded ESD problem? Basically the tail belt builds up a nice, nasty static electric charge and then transfers it elsewhere. Depending on your ESC and your equipment installation it may or may not be this.

What was the weather like when you where flying? Particularly the humidity level?

Do you participate in the awesome Logo only forum at www.logoheli.com? Lots of info on this there.

Your 48 3P Opto is getting hot and shutting down. Try to make sure that the ESC is receiving enough cooling. Opening up a couple of well thought out holes in the canopy may help. A 12V cooling fan can be purchased from Radio Shack to help in cooling that can be wired directly to your motor wiring harness. Place the fan along with the ESC blowing on it.
You are probably geared for too much current draw causing it to get hot.

Try this: Fly the machine with the canopy off and I bet you don't have the same problem, unless you are way over geared.
Hope this helps!

OK I recharged the pack in question and tried it again. Motor cut out within the first 20 sec. of flight. And it kept on doing it until I stopped.

Took another pack and flew, no problem ESC worked fine no overload or any other sign of an ESC problem.

OK so its the battery pack. But why isn't the receiver and all inputs dead if the pack cuts out, I am running UEBC and no seperate battery.
That's something I don't quite get???

So what do I do from here. Open the pack and look for weak the spots ??? I had the pack zapped. I guess I cant repair that myself ??

The pack may have high internal resistance or some bad solder joints causing the system to load too heavily. I would have the pack checked out by the manufacturer.

You should check the batteries for their temperatures. I check each of the individual batteries on my battery pack with an infrared temperture gauge. They should all be around the same temperature after flying. Sometimes they put in a battery that doesn't match the reast and it will mess up the whole pack. I find the bad battery and replace it with a matching battery.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

I could certainly try to find the bad battery but they are zapped so I guess I can't repair it myself ??

Best to send it in probably.

The thing with the temperature is of course that now I can't fly this pack any more so I won't find out which cell is the bad one because when flhing the first 20 seconds until it cuts out the first time the pack does not get warm at all.
