Safety - RC Helis are not toys > Bad Attitude in Socal

Had an interesting thing happen at the Carson field today. I'll keep this short. Pilots A and B are working together on a heli in the pit area. Pilot C shows up and joins pilot's A & B about 10 feet away. Pilot C fuels up, fires up, then set's the heli down in the pit area and extends his antennae. Pilot's A & B get alarmed and Pilot A says "Hey, you're not gonna take off are you". Pilot C says "Yep". Pilot A says "That is what the pads are for, these things are way too dangerous to be taking off from the pits". Pilot C says "So what. You aren't telling me what to do". Tempers rise. Pilot A walk towards pilot C. Pilot C says "You don't walk to me like that" puts his transmitter down and starts going for his car as if to get something (at least this is how I viewed it, and I am Pilot B, the silent one). Pilot A wisely backed off. Pilot C then comments "You guys are actually scared of this thing? Pssss." He then spooled up the heli in the pits a couple of times, made some engine adjustments, then walked out to the pad and took off.

I don't know pilot A very well, only met 2 days ago actually. He has been helping me out, and is typical of the type of person I have met at the field so far. I don't know pilot C at all. Maybe he was having a bad day, I don't know, and I won't judge, but I will leave when I don't feel safe, whether it injury by a heli or another person with a bad attitude.

Hmm I wonder who Pilot C is. Doesn't sound like someone who flies with us often.

Let us drag this individual out on the carpet for all to see..... Blatant safety violations, cannont go ignored! Plus, we haven't had a good controversy in a few weeks...

Mike

I'd like to remind all the so cal Carson flyers to remember to throw the glock in the field box....might have to regulate...

It wasn't the blatant safety violation that bothered me. It was the response that I didn't like. It's kinda like asking your loud neighboors to quiet down, and having them tell you to "Get Bent".

Yeah!

Lwnemesis: Mike likes "Stirring the Pot"..

darhom: Thats what i'm talking about. We don't want to lose our field because of these goomba's with bad attitudes.

I have been flying since the 1970’s and have seen my share of stupidity. If the field is a state owned one, there is not much you can do other than politely ask the guy to operate his model further away from you.

Unfortunately there is very little you can do to win this situation. Even if you succeed in driving this guy out of the area, he could take his anger out in other ways.

Or you could take the Soprano approach: wait for him to fly and bash his head in with a shovel; throw him in the trunk of your car and dump him in the river.

Personally I’d appeal to his sensibility of the situation. Perhaps he has a friend that also fly’s there that may be willing to help this.

Actually, I believe the Sopranos approach would be to find out what channel he is on...wait until he is airborne...then...

Wile I do not condone aggressive behavior I think flyer A was justified. When someone thretens my safety I have a right to defend my self. Yes there are better ways to deal with the situation but flyer C was clearly being an "A" hole!

The flying field is a place where different people with variable personalities meet. Unfortunately, the good and the bad will eventually meet and the wise thing to do is to just back off rather than provoke.
In our society, the aggressor usually win a bad confrontation wether you are big, strong and tall.
Enjoy our hobby and be safe with your machine and the people we mingle with.

thats why concealed carry laws are
a win.

they can get away w/ it.

Not really! What it does show is that, from a group of good people he stands out to be an A** Hole! One day he will realize it, and eventually turn out to be your best friend.

I hate people like that.
Same stupid people that fly over houses and cost us flying fields.
I have heard of restraining orders to keep idiots off of a field ( that was funny )
