If any of these pilots show up at your local field and request help into the hobby, please gently encourage them to pursue some other avenue.

Seneca

Yeah, I was going to title it some thing like 'Seneca's training photo's revealed, since you seem to be the current RunRyder punching bag...but then I decided I don't know you well enough.

At Boeing

That 152 got tied up in the wires just to the Northwest of the control tower. He was attempting a go around if I recall after he was advised of some wake turbulence. He found the wake turbulence.
Hell of a rescue really from the firefighter side of things. Made all the national magazines on rescue technique.
He still flys and owns a house on a small airport near me. Don't know him though.
BTW he was on his way to work at the Boeing plant there in Seattle when this happened. What a way to commute huh?

I would looovvvvee to hear the story on that Metroliner though. I cannot figure out how that one happened without some seriously poor judgement.

How would you like to have been the 47 driver that had to answer for totalling a multi-million dollar money maker by overshooting the runway.
How about you SENECA. Wanna walk into your boss's office and tell him you just took out the nose gear (and the nose for that matter) on the Falcon.

I think the guy that landed the plane on the power lines showed some skill. It got to be hard to land on those lines, inverted to boot!

my question is.. why in the hell did that person in the caravan try to land on that ice when clearly you can see the wet spots on it. which in turn, should make one question the thickness of it.. there is only ONE correct answer to that picture.. im not an incident investigator, but i DID stay at a holiday inn express last night!
jim

BTW that 47 driver got promoted and is now the princes' right hand man!

I would imagine that when you are in trouble and your choices are 1) crash and die, or 2) land on ice that might be thin and possibly live, you'd take choice number 2 without much thought.

I wonder if the pilot of the ice plane made it out alive. It doesnt look good from this vantage point.

Wish I still had the picture of the National Airlines 727 that landed just off Florida's NW coast in '79 or '80. The pilot stated that he thought he saw the runway lights....it ended up being a few shrimp boats.

No fake

Jag,
I don't think that is a fake. I used to work on the ramp and have seen empty cargo containers get sucked and blown off the carts like that. I have not seen one go into the intake like that, but it is possible.

From what I recall on the Metroliner, The guy with the chocks didn't chock and the guy on the brakes didn't set the brakes. Gravity took care of the rest.

I will have to look into that. I am pretty sure he is still alive and kicking here, but who knows.
Here is a good link to somemore pictures. The Tukwilla fire department did the rescue.
