Hi,

Could someone tell me if the "Great planes Triton" Battery Charger is suitable for charging the "Thunder Power" Lithium (4S4P 8000mAH 14.8v) packs that people are using in their "Logo 10's"?

If their not suitable could you please recommend a reasonable priced charger that would be suitable for charging these battery pack's as well as NiCad & NiMH.

Thanks, Hayden.

I know it's a bit more expensive, but would the "Schulze isl 6-330" be a better choice? Or could someone recommend one.

Thanks, Hayden.

The Triton could do it but if you're going to stay in lithiums and you don't already own one, you may want to consider the Schultze. The Triton is great but 4 cells is it's limit.

What is the minimum Amps supply needed for the "Schulze isl 6-330d" if your charging large capacity batteries.

And is it worth paying extra for the version that you can hook up to your PC, what doe's it allow you to do?

Thanks, Hayden.

I use a 10-12 A power supply.

The only thing I know about the one which you can connect to your computer is that you can monitor the state of your pack. If they are old, you can see you have to buy new ones, but you'll notice that in flight too, because of shorter flight times.

If you are planning on doing monster sized packs you will need a continuous rated 20amp or even 25amp supply. Make sure it is regulated.

I think the Schultze can pump up to 8 amps or more during a charge. If it has to step up the voltage AND put out 8 amps AND considering losses in the conversion and overhead, 12 amps probably won't do it.

Thanks for the info Guys.

I think I will get the "Schulze isl 6-330", now it's just a matter of deciding whether to get the "isl 6-330d" or "isl 6-330dRS"(with serial port and accessories).

Glenn in Den, what do you call monster size packs. The largest I'll probably use will be 12 cell 3300mAh or "Thunder Power" Lithium (4S4P 8000mAH 14.8v).

Thanks, Hayden.

For a "monster pack" I was thinking 10s4p or 11s3p or something like that for Lithiums and 30 or 32 cell for nimh.

Those are both typical of packs used by the hard core electric folk.

If you are sure all you want to do is what you are saying above, then by all means, buy the Triton and save yourself a few bucks. It is definitely more user friendly than the Schultze. I don't have a Schultze but I almost sold my Triton (when I thought I was going to go "hard core" myself) and I read up on user ratings of the Schultze. It is held in high regard but it is difficult to use.

You'll be okay with the Triton. Triton recommends either a 12 or 15 amp supply. I'm doing okay with a 10 but I wouldn't recommend less.

I've been thinking about getting the "Orbit Microlader V6". charger instead of the "isl 6-330". As it has a higher charge rate, has pulse charge, plus more and isn't sensitive to the power supply used, like the schulze. The only down fall that I know of is it can only charge one battery pack at a time unlike the schulze that can do two at a time (I know the second one is limited though).

What do you think, is this the better one to go for?

Cheers, Hayden.
