| I think the numbers on a motor is either how many times the motor is wound or the RPM it produces? Like the Kontronic motors have a 600-16, 600-17, etc. That is, those motors will produce that RPM, eg. 600-16 will produce 1600 RPM and the 600-17 will produce 1700 RPM. I'm not to sure about the Hacker motors though? I think it has something to do with how many time the motor has been wound, but I'm not sure.
As for what motor and ESC to choose it's really up to the person flying. The motor and ESC is really a personal preference. Most people will go with the Schultze 18.46k because it has been a proven performer and not many failures. They are expensive, so some people go for ESC's that are cheaper, like Castle Creations.
A BEC is built into the ESC, but it only works up to 10 batteries. So if you use more then 10 batteries, most people use 12, you will need to buy a UBEC. Go here to order one http://www.koolflightsystems.com/ultimatebec.htm
Take Care,
