This is a video I shot of a Cobra taking of from the langford green at Florida State University while I was down there last weekend doing a Mercedes gig. It was a long day already, pardon the sleepy-cam. You can see the frame of one of our tents being built in the background, waiting on heli to leave before building more.

close but no cigar.
if you guess within 15 up or down we got a deal.
if no one else replies i might have to add in the tail rotor rpm too
rob g that is close to the tail rotor rpm but if the main rotor was spinning that fast i think it would blow up.

It's a memory from my stint in Army aviaton back in the mid-70's. I'm surprised I remembered correctly..

SInce the 'contest' is over : After I posted my response, I opened up the original video in premier and counted the blade beats for 2 seconds, divided by 2(2 beats=1 rotation) and multiplied by 30 and came up with 315. Is 311 the spec, or a measured value?

311 is the spec.
if you counted whil it was on the ground they were not spiining at 311 because 311 is the rpm required to fly.
that is why i said right after it took off.
just like when we spin ours up and have 0 pitch it will spin faster before takoff then the load hits.
you were very close with your counts though.

your crazy guy.
you might be right then but listed in the navair manual 4790
(the pilots bible) it states that 311 is rpm for main rotor and 1460 is for tail rotor. i am sure it cant venture off a little bit.
what program are you using for that pic??
