| You can't start the engine backwards with the starter as the start bearing in the clutch will not engage. Engines start backwards when running rough, and just when starting, "kick back" and mysteriously start running in the opposite direction. If the clutch will seemingly not engage, this is a good indication that this has happened. Actually, the clutch is likely engaged but the auto hub is not catching to rotate the blades.
When I start mine, I keep the starter turning for a few seconds after the engine starts, until idling smoothly. |
