My friend has ended up with a brand new TT raptor 36,it dosn't have main blades.Which ones should he get and why?
He can hold a nice hover over a spot at 150 mm with his piccolo FP.

550 mm wood blades with a 12mm grip thickness and a 4mm bolt hole.
Why? Because that is the size that fits.

What brand? Aerotech's are relatively cheap and of good quality, about $20 here in the states.

$28 Fiberglass Blades

I have a few sets of these blades. They look and fly great. Several of the guys at my field are using them now and everyone has been very happy with them. And they are only $28!!! I posted the info several months ago on this web site, but here is a repeat of that post.

The company that makes them is "The World Models". The USA distributor and retailer is Airborne Modles. Here is a link to their web page. They also have full page ads in RCM magazine.

http://www.airborne-models.com/

Once you get there, look down at the lower left corner and you will see "Parts and Accessories". Click on Accessories. Go to the bottom and click on page 2. Once on page 2, scroll down to the bottom and you will see the following two items:

FRP main rotor blade PR6200550 Fiberglass 550 mm semi-symmetrical. Clockwise rotation. 4 Oz. pre-balanced. Bolt hole 4 mm, root 12.5 mm.

FRP main rotor blade PR6200551 Fiberglass 550 mm symmetrical

If you then go to page 3, you will see the 660's and 680 blades.

Please note the web site says the root is 12.5mm, in reality, they are exactly 12mm and fit the Raptor perfectly. Yes, they include spacers and bushings for 3mm and 4mm bolt holes.

I hope this helps. -Steve

I have also used the World Model blades before. Don't assume they are balanced but they are much easier to deal with than woods. They are also much cheaper than woods if your time is worth anything.

Why would you want to use aerotechs woodies when you could be using the world models glass mains? I recemmend the semi 550s they work better in the wind and you can do aerobatics with them also. For $33 shipped who would want anything else?

auto rotations-

are the "the world model" the go for autos .Do we need to think about weighted blades or are the raptor head feathering bearings not up to weighted blades.
Thanks regards Don

I just tested a set of semi glass mains from The worldmodels on my Rappy and yes it does auto MUCH better now. I have a driven tail tho so lifting mains is pretty much a must on my lil 30 now. I like the way they felt too, better than my syms. They are so cheap that you could buy both semi and sym both for the price of 1 set from any other manufacturer and then make your mind up yourselfs. That would be the best scenerio for most probably.

I can't talk about their auto ability a great deal as I switched to TG blades when I started trying a little more aggressive stuff. The World Model blades would start off in track but when I came back in they were out of track. However, they were not nearly as bad as the woods. I didn't notice the "woof and poof" scenario. I switched to TG blades and that problem stopped completely. V-blades are used on them all the time and I am pretty sure they are a little heavier than TG. I love my v-blades on the 60 and might try them on the 30 but now your talking about spending money. So if you are wanting all the advantages of wood blades (cheap) without the fuss then I don't think you can beat World Models for the price. In FF, loops, rolls, etc. I did not have a problem with them. Rolling tail slides and funnels, that is when I started seeing tracking problems. Thats my experience with them anyway.

BTW, I have only used symmetrical and have no time on semi-syms.
