Cypher 50

Hi Guys
I've been following this post, picked up one of these kits and evaluating it my self. The kit is nicely put together and I must admit, this will set the competition level a little high.

I've owned several JR birds, for instant the Ergo 46 and Ergo 60 size sport. I've also owned a few DNHP's and a couple of Raptors. Okay where is this all going? This kits looks just like the DNHP 50, at lease the upper frame does. The configuration of the tank and lower frame is totally unique. I looked over all the parts and happy to say that you can go either way with build up should you want to change something about the Kit itself, for instance; You could interchange a lot of the parts with Raptor parts and/or JR evolutions parts. Raptor parts, like the tail belt and JR parts like the Main gear set.

Just to let you guys in on something, I was hoping to have one of the Carbon suppliers on line with a carbon frame set ready to go should someone want one, but the intial cost and over head was more than the kit itself, bummer! I bet by the time the kit catches on someone will start producing them and the price will come down.

I'm doing a thorough look over the entire kit and trying to make a list of parts I can identify (from other kits) and new parts. From the looks of the head assembly, it looks like at one point the swash-plate locked, meaning it didn't move up or down, and just pivot. I'm wondering why did they change that design, it might have been worth the ride. Hollow main mast, looks like the Raptor crossed with the JR, I wonder if at one point they had a rod moving up and down in it.

For the Money, $200 bucks + shipping, 40 bucks more than the Hawk from Century and parts that cross over from other kits, it's not a bad kit, PLENTY OF UPGRADES ALREADY (BLING!)...Good for the money. Haven't put it together yet but from the looks of things it's a simple build, no different than any other kit. And Hey, if you crash you can just buy another kit for that price

Galifrey I saw the Pics of the upgrades and wondering from whom are these parts coming from? I know you mentioned it, do they have a website and is it in English? Let us know. Also, what's the cost?

Hey Chris (QUOC) , are you getting one of these kits? I passed the kit off to Ules to look over. He was just as curious. I think this kit will fit the IMZ 50 Engine....The engine cost more than the Kit...How funny.

I am jealous at you now ! It is getting cold out side all the time and I am so ready for some project as you know I was going to build me a Tempest this winter but I 've got it done before Fall ended.
From what I see the MACRO is all the parts that Galifrey need to change it to a 50 / 3D. And it probably cost as much if not more than the kit it self.
Talking about DNHP similarity, that explain how they still exit.
I like to try it out to see what it is all about. You should know me by now ! I am just like a kid in a candy store and don't tease me.

The Macro is the replacement for the cypher...

The parts will all be standard in the macro but the price is uncertain...

As the parts they replace ae all very similar, I am suspecting the price will not be hugely different...

website is www.tkrc.net, and click english for the english menu...

All my parts came direct from the factory...

Here is the retail parts list... http://www.tkrc.net/3macrok/index_e.htm

note the auto bearing is $31.82 retail... not an expensive item at all...

Carbon Parts Again

Okay, got back in touch with the Carbon guy, said that if we had 5 to 6 people asking for the sets the prices could come down considerably. I know I want a set...

Hey Chris, I picked the kit up as a Winter Project myself. I came home this weekend and man it's cold but it's colder up in Dahlgren!

I will let you guys know what the prices on the carbon frame sets are.

Update on the Carbon Frame Sets

I talked with the Carbon Supplier and gave me a price of $150.00 for a complete frame set, excluding battery tray. That price is based on 5 to 6 people buying in on the set and of course I would have to send him my metal set for the template. I don't have a problem with that. The price is still a little steap, I hoping the kit takes off and then the carbon frame sets will get cheaper.

Let me know what you guys think about this?

Galifrey Nice Frame Set

Galifrey, where did you get that pic from? I am very interested in the Carbon frames for the Cypher kit but haven't been able to find any overseas suppliers. The guy here in the US is asking $150.00, please let me know. I don't want to spend that much for a set of frames.

I really don't like the metal frame set. Okay, the kit is inexpensive I know but I have had way too many bad experiences with metal frames like this one. Because it's stacked and have very little support on the bottom the frames tend to warp after a while. I've owned a few JR birds and DNHP's and from time to time they all end up warp. You really can't tell until one day you have to adjust your servos or links. I had an Ergo 46 and man that thing had it bad. I took the frame apart and sure thing the frame was warped and bolt holes stretched. I replace the frame set and the problem went away for a while. Every bird I've had with Carbon frames, I haven't had that problem so please let me know. This would be the only BLING I would suggest. Oh! been thinking about the gear ratio and think it might be a little too high for a 50 engine. I suggest going with a 85 tooth main gear and/or a 10 tooth pinion, both parts are JR clones so making the change shouldn't be too hard.

the pics came from the manufacturer, I will pass more info and prices as soon as I have them...

The Macro upgrade is a BIG improvement on the current model, and adds a lot more cyclic range and improved cooling as well...

The new blue anodised frames are better as well...

All details will follow as I get them...

Including the new gear ratio... 88/11 (the stock gear ratio (9.78:1) works fine with a 50)

Just a quick update...

The new parts are now partially assembled, and the improvement in cyclic range is great, up from 6 degrees to about 8 degrees+

The new paddles are like a softer version of the K&S paddles so should provide some good response...

Unfortunately due to bad weather testing has been delayed, and I am now off to Cyprus for Christmas, so further testing will be delayed until early January 2004..

Will get back as soon as I can...

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all..

i fitted a webra 50 and had to add a lot of spacers to get it to work ok
i cant see the clutch lasting long so will investegate what other make

i had to fit 3 thrust washers
as the main thread on the engine stopped the clutch from seating properly
i started with the normal one washer and the clutch
just would not seat wright
then another
still not enough
then the 3rd washer was just right

well it was ready for today sunday for a short hover and then a check over
but have a couple of problems
i have had a lot of problems with the clutch
it is all down to what engine you are going to use
so i think i have solved it
the clutch sits way to high into the clutch bell
at the same time you cannot remove the lower exhust bolt
the main frame engine mount bolt holes
if you elongate them you lower the engine by 2mm
you have now lowered the clutch and can also remove the exhust bolt 2 problems solved

it is a bit windy today sun
but fired it up and put into a hover for about 5min
seems ok so far stable not much trim needed
now just have to sort the tracking and check all the nuts bolts etc
and something i forgot to do check the c of g
now just wait for a good day for some basic flying

Hey bugsb, what up? So you put the 3 washers between the flywheel and the engine? Is there was a posibility to put the 3 washers under the nuts that atach the flywheel to the engine shaft in order that the flywheel seat better and does not rise?

Sounds like the usual "Webra 50 Crank Too Long" problem...

Usual fix is to grind it down...

That way the clutch sits lower and wont foul the clutch bell...

As for the bottom exhaust bolt, I use a ball end wrench to nip up then a normal L shaped wrench to tighten (using the short side)

It fits in without any problems at all... Were you using straight allen drivers (screwdriver style)?

Where abouts do you fly Ron?

May be worth us meeting up

hi galifrey
hope you had a good break for xmas
yes the crank was a bit long
i have an older os50 but that crank was to long and the mounting holes would not line up so i took the webra out of the mozi sport
i am useing L allen keys
but with droping the engine found it much better
i am only flying the basic's at the moment so for a while will be keeping the heli as is (no upgrades)
i fly at an old airfield near rothwell (no club) there has been flying there for 30 years or more
it would be great to come over to you one w/end to see the heli fly with the upgrades
and hopfully the weather to clear up so you can get some more reports
hear as many people around the area are interested
is it possible for you to make a list of what spare's can be used from other heli's
evan better if someone could import them
glad your back

Hey Galifrey

I still haven't put mines together yet. The guys at MC2 International is giving the kit a final look over, not sure what their plans are. Anywho, I plan to put mines together over the winter and getting electronics together now for the final push.

Q? What servos did you use?
Q? What was the way you mounted them?
