Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt > gyro gain too high??

I just put a JR410t gyro in my trusty Nexus, and now the tail will go side to side too much to maintain stability.. Had my first mishap because of it. I made a bunch of changes prior to the gyro change, so I'm not sure if it was the gyro or not. I do know that it was working in the right direction.

The other changes I made was putting KSJ tail rotor blades on it, and 550mm carbon blades instead of the 530mm's.

The only damage was the tailboom and the main mast.. but definately do not want that to happen again!! Those rotors are expensive!!!! It only had a boomstrike because when I landed it, the tail whipped on uneven ground and it tipped over. The blades looked fine except for a couple nicks out of the one end

I'm guessing the gain was too high??

Make sure there is no slop or binding(drag) in any of the linkage, then back the gain down , then slowly increase it in steps until it does the back and forth thing ,then reduce it slowly until it stops.

What servo are you using on the tail? If it's a slow servo you will have problems.

It is a slow servo.. a standard 3001 Futaba.. Does the 410t need a high speed coreless servo? I thought it worked with either, but I may be wrong. I took out the Helimax gyro that was in there, and it used that same 3001 servo.

The tail linkages are virtually slop free. I put a tail mounted servo mount on it and carbon pushrods. It is very free with no binding.

Any ideas??
Thanks a ton!!

i just put my JRG460T remote gain version back into my nexus.. i find anything over 20% gain is too much tail just wags like crazy.. so i ended up to drop the gain to about 17% and voila no wags.. go figure that one out. i don't know.. why.. try drop the gyro gain down see if the wag stopped. Oh yeah the tail servo just the standard 3001.

i've had a similiar problem with my g410T - tried a fast hitec-525bb, and a standard jr-537servo. Both have the same problem. I'm in non-hh for now. I spoke to Ron Lund at Rick's RC and he too suggested dropping the gain until it stoped the side-to-side motion, which IMOP is different than wag. I have not gone back to the field this weekend, but i plan to start with the gain real low when i return. My gyro experience is not exhaustive, but with other gyros either the tail wags (gain too high) or it does not hold and slowly drifts (low gain). This gyro is different.

Cool.. thanks all of you!! I know that thing HAS to be better than that helimax gyro! I'll drop the gain like a bad habit and go from there. Thanks again.. Now I just have to wait till my hardened main masts come in.

Thanks Richard & Naomi
