My friend crashed again. The first time was when I said "Hey, try an auto." He landed hard and bent the spindle. $6 for a new one. No other damage. Today we noticed he actually did break his gyro. So he said "Hey, I will try to fly without a gyro. Although I did hear that gyros made flying practical." So for some reason he launched high into the air (he thinks it was stuck on something), maybe 40-50 feet, and it yawed and then crashed hard. We were sure it was totaled. Nope -- just another $6 spindle. No other problems! Amazing.

Two crashes in the past....................cost me a total of around $25, and Ive got a spare boom I didnt replace (small dent in boom). Maybe lucky though, a friend of mine crashed and did about $85 worth.

Sorry to hear that Jon, I know the feeling, the only difference being it's usually my fault when I crash. I do know the frustration of a crash due to things beyond your control, they're the ones that really shake your confidence. Make the best of it and enjoy the re-build.

An update: we found we lost the gyro in the crash. Wanting one *today*, we called 10 local stores and they are so pathetic that no one had one -- even the local Hobby Town at the Mall (and they sell Helicopters). We went to another Hobby Town and I could not believe it. The only gyro they had was $109 and it was a mechanical one! An Airtronics that drew 4x the power of a modern gyro and was about 8x the size! I asked them if this was left over or if when they sold it they would order more of the same thing. He said that is what they sell and will order more! Anyway, we ended up driving 35 miles to a real place and got one.

So here is why he crashed to begin with -- we had the collective reversed I think this is because we were sharing the transmitter with Realflight and had messed with it and did not do a proper pre-flight check.

So he is back flying today, and I crashed mine with a boom strike, lost the rudder, could not land level. Main rotor hit, spectacular explosion. Lost the blades, boom, boom supports, horz stabilizer, and the rudder linkage. I have all those parts, so I think I can fix it tonight.

My old one either went drilling for oil, or tried to take a short cut to China.....either way you look at it, it didnt make its goal. I ended up buying a new kit. Actually, the elevator servo failed while doing continuous flips and it hit the ground going full bore.....pieces of plastic everywhere!

I find the weakest parts are the landing gear and the frames near the landing gear. Hope to strenghten that with the bottom frame brace. I think the raptor needs that anyway, there looks to be not enought support for the engine.

Crashed my R60

I crashed my r60 yesterday, wasn't that lucky I think its going to cost around £300. Post crash examination has shown that the crystal in the reciever failed causing the helicopter to do some pretty great flips both horizontally and vertically from FFF. Although before it hit the ground I thought I might be able to save it but stick inputs had no effect, well it went tail first in to the ground and buried itself over a foot, it took two people to pull it out. Parts that need replacing SAB main and tail blades complete new back end new servo gears as some have benn stripped, new main shaft and spindle and flybar. At this point I thought I had been quite lucky but after dismantling the heli I've discovered that the crankshaft in the engine is broken and the the piston is seezed, probably caused by not been able to kill the engine on the ground until it distroyed itself.

So today I'm a little sad and pricing all the new parts. Just thought I'd let you know that even after pre flight checks the crystal gave up after about 10 minites in the air.

Oh well time for some upgrades.

Well my major crash from last night seems all repaired. Everything that broke was in the crash kit I had. It was hard to replace the flybar wire because it was bent and I had no way to cut it.
