| An update: we found we lost the gyro in the crash. Wanting one *today*, we called 10 local stores and they are so pathetic that no one had one -- even the local Hobby Town at the Mall (and they sell Helicopters). We went to another Hobby Town and I could not believe it. The only gyro they had was $109 and it was a mechanical one! An Airtronics that drew 4x the power of a modern gyro and was about 8x the size! I asked them if this was left over or if when they sold it they would order more of the same thing. He said that is what they sell and will order more! Anyway, we ended up driving 35 miles to a real place and got one.
So here is why he crashed to begin with -- we had the collective reversed I think this is because we were sharing the transmitter with Realflight and had messed with it and did not do a proper pre-flight check.
So he is back flying today, and I crashed mine with a boom strike, lost the rudder, could not land level. Main rotor hit, spectacular explosion. Lost the blades, boom, boom supports, horz stabilizer, and the rudder linkage. I have all those parts, so I think I can fix it tonight. |
