Got Jet Fuel? Turbine Helicopters > Trouble in Startup. Help???

When spooling up the Turbine it sometimes will not reach its target of 5000rpm, and then slows down.
On other occasions it will start OK , but with flames coming out of the exhaust, I adjusted the pump voltage, to just a trickle of fuel (0.075v), but still sometimes i get flames. The Turbine just does not spin fast enough some times.
I connected the GSU and tested the starter with the Ignite button, and only get a reading of 5000rpm, I thought this was supposed to go up to 9000rpm.
I have changed the battery and starter motor for new ones, but it is still the same.
I now suspect the RPM pick up. But which is that. I thought it was the black box to the left of the Turbine, with the sensor protruding through to the shaft.
I covered up the sensor, yet still got a RPM reading when testing the starter. Why should I still get a reading?
I suspect this sensor as the ECU cannot determine wht RPM the Turbine is doing, therfore, it does not know when to start the gas or fuel etc.
Am I barking up the wrong tree here?
Does anybody have any ideas, I contacted Jetcat USA, but still waiting for reply.
Cheers
Peter G
P.S my shaft nut has a hole completely through it. Should there be a magnet in there.
Also posted a pic of what I thought was the sensor, does it look damaged?

Thanks for the reply.
I did read your post on Starter Motor, it doesn,t seem that you had you had the same problem, or was it a problem you did not post?
I have replaced the starter motor with a new graupner 480 motor and still the same. Having said that I have just had 3 successful startups!
So this problem is intermitent.
Very confused.
