Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > Reversing Landing Gear Causes Canopy to Come Off?

I reversed mine and found the helicopter sits allot more balanced.........tail doesn't hit the floor, no grass stains on tail blades.

I think I saw in another post that the canopy is more likely to come unclipped from the skids when reversed? Ive not had this problem, but Im not flying acrobatics.

Is the canopy coming unclipped from the skids ,a problem when the skids are reversed?

It's true....but.

You can do a few things to resolve the problem. The main gear strut has a different shape molded from front to back. I used a dremel and cut a chamfer on the back side so the clip had something to bite into.

Later I converted the 30 to a 46 and added a glass canopy. I had a spare canopy latch for my Raptor 60 and I installed it on the 30 canopy and it fit perfectly with the gear installed backwards, nice and snug.

I flipped my struts around and haven't had any problems with getting my canopy to attach. The canopy clips not only fit, they still get quite a good grip.

The grommets on the canopy however, are another story. One of my grommets has already split clean in two. They looked like they were made of a cheap rubber. Tine to go down to the hardware store and pick up some real black rubber grommets.

With my gear backwards my canopy was coming unclipped during flips. To remedy this I installed a screw eye in the canopy clip and zip tied a rubber band to it. On my back landing gear I have a 6-32 bolt hanging down that I loop the rubber band around. No more loose canopy.

R30 skid brace reversal

I reversed just the rear brace and it's a lot more sturdy, and you dont have the trouble of the canopy unclipping

reversing skids

I just changed the front strut back to the original position..................left the rear strut reversed.............canopy seems to fit better............I also drilled a hole where I could safety-tie the canopy if needed.

Im gonna give this configuration a try.

Go to Radio Sheck and get a pack of the assorted size vinyl grommets. Unlike the stock rubber grommets, these will probably outlast your Raptor!

What about having the frount one the "right" way and the rear the "wrong" way?

Most people at my field drilled a small hole through the clip and into the gear. Then installed a small self tapping screw.
