Safety - RC Helis are not toys > my spooky missing blade story..

jeffschollKey Veteran - Location: Whitefish, MT -
A couple weeks ago I had my Extreme lock out and hit the ground with the blades wound up at 1750. It was a mild crash, but the blades made 6 good swipes in the dirt destroying the 700's. There were a few blade pieces I didn't locate so I assumed they wound up in the tall grass.

Last saturday I jumped in the hot tub with the girlfriend and she found something on the cover she couldn't identify...but I could....

Here is the layout....

The culprit...

Cheers,
Jeff

Nice pad.

Those weighted blade tips can get some serious distance. There is a metal-roof shelter at the field I fly at. A P-Max bit the dust at a fun fly a couple of weeks ago. It went in a good 50 yards from the building and probably ten seconds after it finished the chicken dance and the smoke settled, there was a loud POW on the roof of the shelter. We all soiled our shorts.

Turns out it was about the last 6 inches of a mah 700 blade (the part with the lead). It must've gone nearly straight up and came down in the exact center of the roof.

Just another reminded of the amount of energy stored in these things...

Hi all,

The house is not mine, but in fact belongs to my girlfriend and her sister. I spend most my time there however ;-)

BimmerM3,
I have been through a bunch of MAH 710 blades and they all had a metel wire in the leading edge which kept them in one piece even after the hardest hits. Did the tip pull out from the wire?

Cheers,
Jeff

I love it, great TV and then the amplified antennae for VHF/UHF on the window sill, ala walmart.

Killer house though!

physics_nut,
I here ya...
One of the girls loves to watch "Friends" but has to deal with the local affiliate since DirecTv won't let that one through :-(
I tend to hide downstairs during the "Thursday 30 minute snow show" to watch HD material.

Jeff

Jeff:

I just noticed the question you asked me! Yes, the wire pulled out of the MAH blade.
