RunRyder Member Service > Helicopter kit donation needed

Mark Ryder

Location: Encino, CA

RunRyder needs a RC helicopter kit donation for the first 500 contest winner. The donating manufacturer will receive front page exposure on the internet's busiest RC Helicopter web site.

For the last 4 weeks ModelsportUSA blades were shown on RunRyder's home page. The blade picture was requested over 14,000 times and was visited over 11,800 times.

If no manufacturer steps up to the plate by Nov16, I will then write a check out of my personal funds and deliver a new RC helicopter to member volkul. Please send email to mark@runryder.com

Thank You
Mark Ryder

Thanks to MTA Hobbies for donation.

Quiet the contrary.

I think, for all the time, energy, and money invested in this site, Mark deserves accolades.

As the winner of said prize...

nutswinger,

I think it inappropriate of you to speak up on the matter. It has no effect on you, so why should you care. You have made ONE post here and that entitles you to chime in? I think not. When you are willing to fill in your profile and take responcability for that which you say then feel free to speak your mind in a civil manner.

Please refrain from making comments as you have. Considering I was notified that the above could be the case it matters not. I can be patient, albeit I am anxious to know what the outcome will be.

It's unfortunate that no company is willing at this point to help Mark out. Mark is willing to give them valuable advertising at a nominal cost.

Lastly I think from what I have seen and been a part of that Mark Ryder has more class in his little toe that you do making a post of that sort.

anything that any mfgr/dealer gives away, wheather by choice, or as in this case, forced, is a cost passwd along to every consumer. so yes, mark's begging the mfgrs to give him a giveaway kit does affect me, and every one else that makes purchases.

Manufactures pay for full page advertising in magazines like Model Airplane, Rotory and RCM. These companies pass on the cost to you as well. This is truly no different than that. It’s just retrospective. I don’t know what a magazine like RCM charges for an ad but I’m sure it’s not cheap. We all pay for the give aways that go on at funflys too. This was just a HUGE funfly with 500 people being the participants and judges.

Considering the present user base is at 620+ members that is a very broad group of specific people to advertise your product to. On an average night there are 5-10 guest accounts that can not be tracked. These too are potential buyers for the marketer to advertise their product to.

If one company that sells one specific item like a JR Voyager E they are able to get 620+ eyes to look at it, increasing the possibility of it being seen and bought increases. Then to get potentially good PR from the give away. Then if the Winner likes it (me), the potential good words I have to say would then have the potential for increasing sales. It's a win win for the company.

Heli Kit Donation

Hey nutswinger, if it will calm your nerves a bit I will send you the $.001 in imaginary increased costs that you think you are owed due to a contest that you never had anything to do with-just because I'm that kinda' guy. I think I will write a letter to McDonalds and ask them for a refund because of all those toys they give away with the kid's meals, those little brats are costing me LARGE! Give me a break!!!!!. --------BladeRunner.

BTW, as far as I can see,no one is "forceing" anyone to "donate" anything. If you are unhappy here I invite you to explore other options.

Added Cost

Let's see - we take advantage of all the other freebiees, coupons for discounts on food, free lunch with the boss, geez I even won an engine at the last funfly I attended... guess I should give it back and look for that rebate check from Saito... for all my other purchases... LOL

Mark - keep up the good work. Don't let a guy like this ruin your day, I wouldn't even think about it.

Volkul - I bet your stress level is pretty low.... be patient this will work out.

What I meant was what I might end up with/which heli, not that it wouldn't work out. I have the greatest faith in Mark.

I'm dieing to know what I might have won... It's one thing to know you have won a give away, but to not know what it is till it is awarded, that's the toughest part. Kinda like that christmas gift that sits under the tree and just nags at you

two sides to every...

Hi everybody,

I really like this website and I've been very impressed by the maturity and friendliness displayed by all members up to date. In addition, I really like the fact that everyone has made everyone else feel as though they are welcome regardless of how many or how few posts they have made.

IMHO, it doesn't matter how many posts a person makes to have his/her opinion counted. BUT, I does matter how he or she presents their opinion. In this matter I have to agree with the more senior members and say that nutswingers choice in wording (and username?) was in poor taste. I guess I'm just naive when I thought that maybe this group could avoid the kind of people that like to stir up the crap...

Nutswinger, if you had read Mark's post more closely you would have noticed that he is providing them with an incentive for donating - advertisement on one of the fastest growing communities on the Web. I happen to agree with him and so do most of the people here. It's pretty obvious you made your post to start trouble and if that's what you want, I'm sure you can find your way to the door.

There just aren't enough hours in the day to put up with people like you. OTOH, if we've misread your intentions be grown-up enough to admit your mistake and apologize, as BladeRunner suggested.

Thanks for the feedback. The prize being awarded is for a contest that started at the very beginning of RunRyder's inception. Just over four months ago I decided to giveaway an RC helicopter to help stimulate forum membership. At that point membership was at 30 with about 5 posts per day. Certainly no one at that time would offer a prize for such an unproven operation. Well now with membership at 624 and with around 100 posts per day it makes a lot more since for someone to offer a prize in exchange for advertising.

Regularly manufacturers donate kits for Fun Fly raffles that have pilot registrations of 50 to 150. I am asking for the same except that RunRyder offers the same Fun Fly exposure on a daily basis.

In this context please explain why I have no class and lots of gaul.

Why don't all the members or at least the ones that want to just donate a few bucks for the kit and be done with it. I would think it would be the least we could do considering what Mark's done with this forum.

1. fun fly folks make their donation request prior to the date/event, not after it has been awarded.
2. no organiser, that i have met in 39 years of r/c anyway, ever asked for donations to their event in an open forum.
3. mfgrs/dealers donate their stuff to places they think will give them a good return, not where organisers have already given it away.

First Post

Okay guys, this is my first post as a convert from RCO. So go easy on me :-)

If we can't persuade any manufacturers to make a donation for a good cause, I think the member-supplied donations would be a good idea. To make it easy, how about setting up a PayPal account and encourage all members to add a couple of bucks to the pot. Let it run for, say, two weeks and then take whatever is there and use that amount to buy a kit. Maybe even ask a manufacturer for a discount in exchange for limited exposure on the site?

I'm just thinking out loud here...

1. I have no choice but to follow through and award the prize (>500 members). Are you saying I should not have even create the contest in the first place?
2. Asking for the donation in this forum is a way to keep things in perspective. I have made calls to manufacturers and they don't know who or what is RunRyder.
3. The prize has been won and will be awarded. The first day the blade contest was announced, ModelsportUSA emailed and offered blades. This is not the case with the helicopter kit prize. ModelsportUSA has seen a marked increase in site traffic since RunRyder place there link on it's front page.

First question. What have you done to promote or improve this hobby lately? I have been fooling around with RC helicopters since 1983. I put this site together to help organize the vast resources of personnel knowledge we all can contribute. I could have bought 100 RC helicopters based on the time and money that I have personally invested to get things were they are today.

Second question. I think RunRyder is fast, efficient and organized. Are you inferring that this is not the case? If so please explain what needs to change.

Thank You
Mark Ryder

What is happening here?

Mark,

Do not feel you should have to defend your actions anytime someone questions what you are doing or have done. Just go look at the congrats thread everytime this comes up. This is starting to look like a flame war reminiscent of something on RCO and no one has come here for those IMO this has nothing to do with providing information about flying choppers! So nutsack, take the bitching off the board, email your ranting to Mark and save us the trouble of reading it please. If anyone else agrees with me maybe we can start a poll to determine if people want to keep hearing your point of view
