Thats what guys in our club are doing. Why play with a new "prototype" when you can have a refined XCell Fury???

The Fury flies like it is on rails! Best heli I have ever flown....especially for just $670!

Ok, I will get a Fury, but I see no reason to sell my Raptor. That is like saying "Sell your Miata so you can buy a Porsche."

I knew somebody at the feild who had a r60. It had problems , so I went with a fury, since he talked me into a 60.

Everybody wants a fury. It seems most are buying. This is not good because ma is a small company and can not mas produce parts like tunder tiger. This means if you crash it can take a while to get back in the air.

Yeah it is only 670, but look at the spare parts. The auto hub with the gears is like 100 dollars. Sure it never brakes, but that is expensive. The parts are a lot and you can wait a while for one. At least the canopy is 40 dollars, but I thought it was crappy.

I really wonder why these people come here to bash Raptors, I don't go out of my way just to slam other products. I have in the past pointed out that all brands of helicopters have had their share of problems, but would never say you're dumb if you own brand X. If you can afford a Fury with all the shiny stuff more power to you, I'll just keep slumming around with my cheap Raptors.

Come on... you guy's you work for MA don't ya.

I agree w/ Waldo! I had 2 Nexus's, and after dorking both in (not on purpose, I was in the learning stages....still am) I decided to get a R30.
After having this one for almost 1.5 years, it is still going strong, and will eventually get a R50 or 60. Parts are cheap, and lots of mods available to those who want them.

Just my 2 cents,
Rob

Robb,

I just finished converting my Raptor 30 to a 50 and BOY WHAT A POWERHOUSE. I have the OS 50 engine and it is very thirsty compared to the OS32 I had in the Raptor 30. I also changed from the 3001 servos to S9252's. The difference in unbelievable. If you get a chance you should try the conversion. ITS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fury's are great but so are Raptors.

P.S. My Raptor 30 had over 90 hours of flying time prior to the conversion.

HelicopterJohn,

I thought about doing a 30-50 conversion, but since the 50 is out now, and my wife has ALMOST given me the ok (boy, I hate my CFO sometimes ), I think I may opt for the 50. That way, I could have 2 heli's. But, if she doesn't give in, then the conversion is my way to go.

Thanks,

Rob

Rob,

I am converting this one and also buying a new Raptor 50 kit. Two sounds like a good number.

I love my fury extreme 80 however; I wish I still owned my raptor 30. The 80 drinks way to much gas! I burn 8 gallons a month at $21 per gallon. I didn't think about the fuel consumption when I bought it. I would strongly consider this factor before buying a larger heli.

I am going to replace the 30 with a 50 you cannot beat this machine for the price and great performance!

I don't konw why we can't have both.. I just bought the R50 this week. My goal for 2 years has been to have an xcell 60, and changed to the fury when it came out. But, I don't plan on getting rid of my 50. I concidered taking the $285 for the R50 and putting it toward a fury, but I could almost get 3 R50's for the price of one fury, at least 2!! Not to mention $50 more for the engine. Or getting a new radio that will handle CCPM, and better servo's. My non super 8 will not do CCPM right. I know, you can mix it, but its not as good and a big hassle. Bottom line for me is this, a fury would be a great second heli, but not good for my ONLY heli. I think I woudl hinder my learning curve because I would be thinking about how expensive it was and intricate and purdy!

I am at the stage in my heli life where I a starting to get daring, trying inverted hovering, funnel, etc.. The last thing I need is to dork in a 700 chopper. I'll get them down on the R50 first, acquire and fly the fury when I want precision and smoothness on the tricks I have down pat.

Yes, you are correct. I just converted my Raptor 30 to a OS 50 and that 50 really likes the 30 percent fuel. About 10 tanks to the gallon running rich for the break-in. I used more fuel this week breaking in this new 50 than I used last month on my Raptor 30.

BUT, the Raptor 50 flies like a different machine. MORE POWER THAN YOU CAN USE, and is super smooth with the new S9252 servos. What a difference from the old 3001 servos.

All the helicopters we have today are great. I am glad that we still have the FREEDOM to choose what we like.

Happy Flying,

Now that I've been exposed to the type of people that own MA Fury's I don't think I want to be part of that club. You see this type at every club, they're the guy's with all the latest gadgets, and helicopters so loaded down with shiny stuff that like the sun you can't look directly at it. I will say this in their defense, I rarely see these guys crash, I'm not sure but I think it may be due to the fact that they can usually be found in the pits polishing and showing off all their shiny stuff. They do another service; they work very hard at keeping the amount of new pilot’s down to a manageable number. All questions asked by a newcomer are considered to be dumb and all answers start with a rolling of the eye’s a smirk and a volcanic spewing of all the technical jargon they can muster. As the newcomer walks away from the self-proclaimed club expert you can tell by the glazed look in his eye’s and the incoherent muttering that yet another plank flier has been born. One bit of advice, never make direct eye contact with this type it threatens their fragile Alpha male egos.

Disclaimer: I should add that not all Fury owners fit this description, most are true lover's of the hobby and would never be offended if you flew a Raptor in their presence.

Impressions

I get that same impression Waldo. To some of them there is only one heli and everything else is just junk.

I am sure that is everyone had enough money to afford high end heils that there would not be any Raptors around. The point of buying a Raptor is for it's low cost, both initially and for crash parts. If I had a lot of money I might have a Fury too, but I don't. So pardon me if I choose a Raptor over not flying at all.

Tetsuo1,

I've thought about that very same thing (would I buy an expensive helicopter if I could afford it) I don't think I would, I would probably buy more raptors for back up. I guess I fly for fun not status, heck I drive a 1985 5.0 Mustang, looks like crud but it gets me and two helicopters to the flying field very fast.

I don't think I could have gotten into this hobby if the entry-level heli's were $500+ w/o the gear, and parts were just as expensive. I think TT hit it on the head w/ the Raptor and the capabilities of it. Low cost, flies great, and cheap/plentiful parts.

You know what? Even if I wanted to make fun of Junk, the Raptor just does not qualify. Ray's book says it has the best collective system of any helicopter, as it was copied from the previous best collective system. It is a super design and the quality is satisfying. Not luxury nice, but nice nonetheless.

I would like to know one thing! do these guys that post this **** really beleave what they are typing? I would like to see a Furby do something my R60 can not do. I had a vigor for a year and it was a great heli but the cost to repair was to high. Now I am flying a R60 and there is nothing this heli can not do that the vigor could. They both fly, both heli's can fly inverted and do all the same tricks.

So please tell me what it is that this heli can do that would make me a better pilot?

"Thats what guys in our club are doing. Why play with a new "prototype" when you can have a refined XCell Fury???"

There is nothing refined about it! why do you think they had to come out with a new lower frame plate? why is there head parts cracking and letting go? why is there reports about tube drive ends coming apart in the air? Why do you think you have to grind holes to fit a better gear ratio for larger motors? BETA TESTING!

Every heli maker out there does the same thing including X-cell. A friend of mine will have his fury together soon, I can't wait to get my hands on it so I can see for my self what is so great about this heli other then Todd, Jason, and Gary!

It's just my observation that SOME Fury Pilots

need a lot of positive reinforcement. Come to think of it, so does my wife. Hmmm........

Kidding, I'm kidding I tell you. Geez

Although, the description of the Club Expert MA Pilot is exactly what I have experienced. There aren't many people that fly around here, but I met a couple of guys that both had MA Birds. They had the whole I'm great you're an idiot show. They had Rolex watches..etc the whole package. Now, they were very nice helicopters and hovered veeeeery smoothly. I watched them fly and gave them kudos. Before I even started my motor the old one told me what a piece of crap my R60 was. One of my favorite experiences in this hobby was looking at their big pouty faces after I got done flying circles around them (and I'm not really all that good). I modestly said something like, yeah it (the R60) is going to fall apart one day, but until that day it sure is going to be fun. Hmm..I never heard from those two chuckleheads again. I wonder why. A side note: one of the chuckleheads had a TELEBEE gyro in his very nice MA helicopter. I told him there was concern about reliability with that gyro. He scoffed at me. A month later he was flying at his GCI Company Picnic (over top of a crowd no less). Low and behold, the Telebee died. His heli impacted 3 foot from a child. I don't care how many Rolex watches you own. If your a chucklehead, money can't buy your way out of being one.

This ought to get me on a few S&(t Lists.

That's okay. The thaw is coming. My posting days are numbered.

My new goal then -- to fly Raptors better than people who have snobby copters. I will have a snobby copter myself but only fly it in private.
