Hey guys, I am hoping to get some answers about the process of obtaining a turbine (helicopter) waiver. I just purchased a JetCopter, and now need to be legal. How do I go about the process? Who do I contact? I know that for the fixed wing waiver I had to fill out the written test, and get a CD to sign off etc. etc. Is there a different written test for the rotory version? Who can sign off as far as skills and proficiency? I live in Phoenix, and don't know of any one else flying turbine helis in my area. Am I going to have to travel in order to complete the testing? Any help, answers or info. you guys have would really be appreciated.

Hey Bandit, I'm the guy who recently bought the JetCopter SX from Bill at Arizona Heli. Get Alan to send you the AMA docs, look on the listing for AMA Designated Turbine CD's and find the nearest one to you. He does not have to be a heli pilot, but it helps. Follow the yellow brick road on the other requirements and you're home free.

After I found the nearest turbine CD and JetCat rep, the rest was easy. I got my turbine waiver in about three days after I submitted all the paperwork to AMA. Since you aparently already have a fixed wing turbine waiver, you probably won't need to do much except get the turbine CD and another CD to sign off on your check ride.

Good luck. Turbines are a hoot .... believe me!
