Hey Guys,
I said I'd post a few more pics of the editing setup a while ago, so here they are.

Pic you have already seen (editing fall promo):

Here is how I usually edit & Import video. You can see the camera on far left and the output video is on the mac screen, video camera screen, and on the large monitor in front of me:

Here is a little easier to see shot with the lights on. Now you can see the mess, tho :

Here are SOME of the wires behind the desk, these computers do a LOT of things and have a LOT of extras hooked up to them:

I'm workin on a new video right now, of shots where the camera man is tracking objects and you see the heli pass thru the frame. It will show just how good my camera operators are at controlling that rig, and usually you'll never know they are moving the camera. It will be up soon.

aircombat,
Thanks

Ha, U got that right, those wires get messier and messier. I had them REALLY neat and organized once, now only the power wires are in their own neat bundle. Its actually harder to pull a single wire from a NEAT ORDERLY system cause the wire goes thru a bunch of bundles, twists, holders, etc. When they dangle, its a lot easier to remove just 1 wire, until they come alive at night and mess themselves up Mine must get messed up during the day, cause I'm awake all night and sleep all day, the life of a Computer Science Student

Quit talking about wires and get out and fly! Some of us have to work during the day. If we did'nt we would be out flying, not talking about wiring.

My Camera Operators are #1

Man-o-man Mujenpwr, you sure do want me to shut up and fly... I thought I scared everyone too much for that! Just kidding.. plus, I have Class and MAN ITS COLD OUT THERE! I'm still at it though, just not as often with this recent weather.

Now,
Here is my latest video I threw together with old clips. In previous posts I stated that my camera operators are the best in the biz. I wasn't kidding around. Ok, Ok, maybe I am making a bold statement, but look at what I have to show everyone.

For this video I chose clips that show my camera operators tracking objects. Not just following a slow moving car, but staying LOCKED on a target even as the helicopter does some less than "smooth" flying. I selected clips that show the camera operator keeping a target centered within the frame, then suddenly out of nowhere you will see the helicopter come into and out of frame, but the subject WILL NOT MOVE! That means the cameraman has been correcting and tracking that object and the helicopter has been moving around and you didn't even know it. They're great camera operators, without a doubt. Remember, there are NO GYROS of any kind on the camera mount here, so once I get the gyros installed just think of the improvements that will result.

Some sections of the clips here are better than others, so watch the whole thing to get the general idea I am trying to show. Remember, these clips are shot at various stages of mount/helicopter development so some parts are worse than others. Also remember I have that slop in the tilt servo that the camera operators have to deal with as well.

The camera operators names are Mike Grossman (My Cousin who also flies R/C helis and planes) and Gavin Portnoy (my old roomate from college). Mike has excellent feel for the controls because he flies R/C and can learn the motion of the system very quickly, and Gavin was a Radio-TV-Film major who has controlled larger jibs and other systems giving him the skills needed to aim the camera as seen in these videos. Both of these guys (Mike first, then Gavin) were with me from the start. They both were in at the ground level with my RaptorCam setup on my Raptor 30. All the images PRESENTLY on www.rchelicam.com are all taken with that Raptor and with Mike or Gavin on the camera.

Ok, the link:
R/C HeliCam Camera Operators are the best - heres why zipped (WMV file)
9.1 Megs, 7 mins, no audio, low quality.

Please, let me know what you think of my camera operators, I think the world of them. Remember, this isn't as easy as it looks to track the objects, deal with the shortcomings of the mount, keep the cables untangled, and deal with MY flying. Thats the hardest part of all :-)

Re-dorkulation

Ok MPA.. maybe this isn't the place for it, but I think Chad will be OK with this in his thread.

Here is my nerd setup...

The editing setup you have already seen:

Now, every computer needs blue lights. Here is my desktop computer that is in the editing photos on the bottom left of the desk:

There is a lot of stuff on that desk, here is what it takes just to power it, and these pics are old. There are now FOUR (4) power strips FULL to power that desk since there are two PC's on the bottom and two wireless laptops on the top.

But my desktop isn't the center of the apartment.. no no.. gotta have a network closet! This closet takes the internet pipeline from the router in the living room and spreads it to the bedrooms. It also houses the Webserver / CVS server / Other stuff Server called MacLinux Land (a 33 mhz PRE powerPC mac that is a HARDCORE linux server), the Backupserver (all machines in the apt can be backed up to it) and "Mariah" the file server that also plays MP3's and flashes lights in the living room w/ visualizations on the TV screen during parties.

The living room with TV that displays what is on the computer screen (From Mariah in the server closet) and has the Lights that flash with the music coming from the surround sound unit (also hooked up to Mariah in the closet).
(old pic)

Finally, the OLD router setup we used to have. We've since upgraded to better stuff:

Ok, I'm done showing my nerdyness for now...

Geoff

Hope you got that gear plugged into a couple of UPS's.

They dont just keep the machines up they do a good deal of filtering and afford protection from sags and brown outs which are real bad for HDD's

Those three machines sitting on the rack

"Val9000" is the Cable gateway, proxy, firewall, spammkiller
Its a 200MMX and has been running ever since new 24/7 (about 5 years now with stops to replace fans and dedust annually.)

"Dungeon" is a 350MMX W98Se and has been on since new, about 3.5 years now, same as above 24/7 sees net via Val9000

"Tower" is Athalon 1.7 w XP and also runs 24/7 since new 2 years ago. sees net via Val9000

2 UPS's down on the floor (on house bricks actually) runs 3 boxes and one screen.
Before I had UPS's I had hardware issues like most do but none since.

idaho
Like the black boxes and kbd
