I am building a l-19 Bird Dog from a magazine I got. I got my plans to scale and I was looking at the wings and there was no aileron. Its a small electric plane ans was wondering how you would mount the ailerons on to the wing and then move them both with one servo in the cockpit. Its not so much where the stuff goes but what I use to move the wires. This is my first plane to build and I really like it. I want it to be a four channel plane because I have a 4 channel transmiiter for my hummingbird helicopter. I was wondering if you could use a piece of wire through 2 vertical pieces of small wound and then attach it to the arm going ing perpendicular to the wing. I have a 15 year old plane that has this but I can;t see how the wire moves inside the wing. it goes somewhat liek this:
_l"----S
_=aileron attatched to wing
l=rod going from airleron perpendicular to wind to something inside the wing
"=something that make the rod switch directions(what is this?)
----=servo arm going to servo
S=servo

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

this is how ailerons work in both my lt-40 and astrohog.

the servo has two arms, each controlling 1 alieron, when one goes up, the other goes down.
theres a pushrod connecting the servo to a piece of angled music wire that goes into the wing, through the wing and out into the aileron.

hope this helps, dont have the planes with me so i cant take real pics.

That helps. One question though, do you use a bendable music wire inside an aluminum tube? If you do this I guess you will not need bell cranks? I was thinking of putting aluminum tubing where I want straight parts and cut it and then put an angled piece to make it turn. If a get a bendable wire it should be able to make a somewhat curved 90 degree angle. To connect the wire to the aileron should I just cut out a piece of wood, dirll a whole in it and bend the wire through. Thank you so much for your help. I will post pics of my progress every Monday.

One more question. How do I hinge the ailerons rudder, and elevator onto the plane? Is it possible to make osmethng like two pieces of small balsa with a wire through it? I think this may be ideal because I can custom make my own, their easy and I would not have to order them. Also I may be able to make the acustom to the plane because every plane is different. I don't need some rocket science super high tech mechanismal do magiggy to hinge them, I just need soemthing simple and effective that will do its job well.

theres no aluminum tube. on my model, the wing ends, you take some extra aileron balsa cut a goove in the side that faces the wing, big enough for the pitch rod.

your lhs should have some type of hinges, either plastic ones that you drill a hole for in the wing an aileron or ones you cut a slot for and CA in (make sure you glue after you cover)

probably the easiest way to figure this all out would be to buy a cheap trainer kit, you could use some of the parts and the instructions have really detailed photos. (at least my sig astrohog and lt-40 did)

I got small hinges, bell cranks and snap-ons. With this, 3 different sizes of music wire. Also I saw a clear tube containing a wire composed of smaller wires called flex. I think I will use this for trailing the wire through the wing and fusalage. I am making the wing right now. It only has ribs and a balsa covering. Cut out the pieces on ban saw and looking good. Instead of putting 1 rib on at a time upside downI figured this would not work. I made a jig to hold the leading edge and ribs. I will dirll a whole on either side of the ribs on the jig and tie pieces of string alone the jig to hold the balsa covering(1/16 inch) down. 1 jig done, 1 more to go. I have all my wood.
